Hi all,

Just got a new 4k tv & linked it to my pc via hdmi, but on windows display settings the max res is 1080p..os it possible to get 4k res on this gpu? I noticed if I turned on amd virtual super resolution it would let me select 2560 x 1600 res in display settings, bit it didn't like 4k videos at that res.. Stutter. Etc. But they play fine when set to 1080p?!

Afraid the tahiti can only decode video at 1080p.
So you'd need to either decode via cpu or upgrade to a better gpu.

VSR will downsample the set res and display it at 1080, which isn't really what you want.

It may be that the HDMI version of the card or (more likely) the tv isn't high enough to be able to display at 4k.

I say more likely to be the TV because I could connect my 7870 to my tv and display 4k@30hz using HDMI and that's a similar card of the same genration and architecture. In that case the card had HDMI 1.4a and the TV supports HDMI 2.0.

EDIT: You may be able to get around the problem using a display port to HDMI 2.0 adapter. You would get 60hz then as well if your TV has HDMI 2.0.

Thanks for your replies, my new TV is the hisense k720, which has hdmi 2.0 ports, I am connected into one of them now with my hdmi 1.4 cable, from my gpu it's plugged into the dvi port via a dvi to hdmi adapter.. Could that be the problem?.. I think it has mini display ports too on the gpu, should I buy a mini display port to hdmi adapter & try that?

That's definitely the problem. DVI, even if it's a dual link adapter (probably not) hasn't got the bandwidth for 4k.

Yes, but I'd go for the club 3d adapter which will convert DP1.2 to HDMI 2.0.

Thanks for the help, would a standard display port to hdmi adapter do 4k at 30hz on the 1.4 cable I have now okay? The club 3d adapters are quite expensive :/.. Standard ones are like £3-£4.. Currently I'd just be watching videos, tv shows etc at 4k, so would be okay at only 30hz on the 1.4 cable?

No probs. Probably yeah, but read the customer reviews or contact the seller to make sure. I think some cheapos only convert to HDMI 1.3.

Thanks I'll make sure it converts to hdmi 1.4! Will lool at hdmi 2.0 in the future.. Will have to upgrade my av receiver for that too.

I do game on the pc too so the graphic cards is much needed in that sense, but I watxh all my media via pc too, so be nice to get 4k res for my new TV!

I wouldn't bother with the dp to hdmi 2 converter unless you have strong cpu.
The uvd engine on tahiti is only level 4 so it can't decode high bit rate 4k media.
