Local Schoolboy Vandalizes Several Parked Cars

Tin foil hat I know but looking at the pic, the reflection of the kid appears to be from behind him - basically the same view that the camera see's, where it should be the front of him.. so essentially the reflection should be his face..
dun dun durr!

oh, and a really crappy thing to happen btw. I've got a few war wounds on my much older crappier golf done by scumbags in car parks who just drive off so you have my sympathy.

Well, best of luck with it! I know I'd go nuts if someone did that to my car.

That is the problem, would you be able to control yourself if you caught him in the act ? would anyone ?

I have a camera facing the other way too, so i have him coming down the street knife in hand  going for all the cars, not a care in the world. Facial features are clear to see. Let's hope i don't see him on the way to work tomorrow as i am not sure i will be able to restrain myself :(

I've got a 2032 and 2132. Excellent bits of kit. I'd tested quite a few IP cameras before settling for the Hiks and nothing else compared for the money.

Excellent to see at least one vandalising little **** is going to get caught doing this, good effort OP.

Himself / his parents foot the bill. If for whatever reason not possible then community service until the bill is covered.

Then the school should give him the telling off he deserves and his parents too and he should then do whatever jobs necessary for his parents to cover the massive repair bill.

For me the key thing is that there is accountability. If the child is to young to be responsible, the parents are. If he is old enough to walk home alone then it is shared between him and his parents. Once an adult the responsibility is his alone.

Key point, the victims of this crime should never be told hrs to young to prosecute so bad luck, just claim on your insurance.

The school really should be on the OP's side here. Don't forget he was carrying an illegal weapon as well.

You can take civil action against him/parents as well for recovery of losses. Given the evidence all the victims including you would be able to find a solicitor to take this on at a reasonable rate.

Ahh sorry. Just scanned through the thread quickly. Assumed he just had a stone or a door key or something!

This is a shame but sadly doesn't surprise me too much. An awful lot of kids are little horrors :(

In this situation, if the school and parents don't play ball can't you take the to small claims court as the cctv footage is clear enough?

This sort of thing really grinds my gears. Both my parents were teachers in Greater London and this kind of **** really ***** me off... There I was thinking he'd just keyed several cars (which is bad enough mind you)...

Sadly though, the knife doesn't surprise me in the present day. It's good to hear that the police are interested in the matter. The image quality is decent by CCTV standards and clerarly identifies the offender. It sounds like they must have looked at other cameras if they've identified more than the 3 cars you caught on your cameras, but you have concretely identified the toerag. There may also have been another incident that didn't involve you but they didn't have decent footage.

For what it's worth, if he's 10 or above (the uniform suggests secondary school), the police can arrest him if they want to - given the evidence I sincerely hope they do. They may well be more interested in the offensive weapon than the vandalism given the current focus on knife crime/gang-related violence in Greater London.

Small claims could be an option as long as you have footage showing his face (which you do). In this instance, you'd probably have to pursue the family as once the yob's off site, I don't think the school can be held responsible for his actions. It smears their name as one of their pupils is a little **** but that's all. Of course a negative press release will add fuel to the fire and is ammunition you can hold in reserve in case the police/school aren't interested.

Thank you for all the comment's. It does make you wonder 15 years ago. Were Kid's this disrespectful or did they have a proper discipline back then. I never in my childhood even took a look at damaging something for the fear of family :)

Rose tinted glasses are so funny. Don't you remember kids taking car emblems and wearing them as bling in the 80's? There have been good and bad kids for ever.

The fact that the OP was not a scummy junior criminal has nothing to do with "funny" rose tinted glasses.

Holy crap... there'll be hell to pay! I feel sorry for the parents. They're victims too.

I don't. They raised a disrespectful little ******. The thing about kids is they are products of their surroundings and influences....

I was from a rough council estate and would never do that.. My dad would have beaten the crap out of me after paying to get it fixed! And rightly so.

I'd be going up the school, armed with the footage and a laptop, storming into the heads office and making my point very clear and firmly. That point being that you have one of their students bang to rights vandalising your car with a knife and you suggest they deal with this appropriately. I'd also call the police while in the heads office. If you show them you mean serious business they will have to act accordingly.

If you don't get anywhere with the police or school. I'd stand out at the school gate giving out flyers, with a screen shot of the idiots face asking for information.
