Tap. Pay. UK. - Android Pay in the UK

On the list of supported banks, my bank is on it as MasterCard + visa : debit + credit card but is "visa electron" not counted? Every time I try to add my card it just says not supported.

I only had a quick Google, but are you sure?

I tried AP at lunch today and it failed. Virgin Atlantic Visa card (MBNA) on my OnePlus One. Didn't come up with a message or anything :( Used the same card manually instead, no problems.

The current contactless limit is £30 but at some retailers you can use Android Contactless Mobile to pay up to £100 by entering your PIN (the one you use with your card).

You need to use it through their app :)

Visa electron is different to Visa debit, tbh I thought all banks had phased them out because they were so limited.

Did you unlock your phone before you tried to pay?

I have used it twice so far. First time got an error so unlocked my phone and it went through.

I didn't actually. I thought we established you didn't need to, but perhaps I'll try that next time :p

I'm a bit disappointed if all it does with store cards is display them so you can scan them as normal, I was hoping you could just tap once and it would both charge you and register your card, maybe something for the future.

Couldnt have said it better myself. :D

Its a shame it doesnt auto send the card details with the payment details, surely its something they could do.
As it is its literally a photo of your card.

With regards to the upper limit, Nationwide says "The only limit on how much you can spend is the amount of money you have in your account, your agreed overdraft limit or any merchant limitations on their terminals.

Root WORKS? how?
i tried on my rooted device and it wouldnt let me add and use a card

Well I'm using an S7 Edge with custom ROM (Echoe ROM v8) with xposed, root, 500 DPI using this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/guide-how-to-change-dpi-root-t3335596),

Changing the build.prop makes android trigger that the /system has been modified and also wont work on marshmellow touchwiz (maybe earlier versions I dunno)

Here are some screenshots off my phone

Small shops such as news agents and convenience stores just about take cards and use antiquated equipment. I do not suspect they will be investing any time soon.

I'm not sure that's true. For one, they aren't that expensive. Secondly, I believe when a fraudulent transaction takes place, the weakest point is the one that is held to account for it. If they don't have chip and pin, that will likely be them. I might have heard this about the US and not the UK though, can't remember.

All PDQ terminals I've seen have a swipe function for when chip and pin isn't working. So yeah Samsung Pay will effectively work anywhere with a card machine to pay for goods.

I know it's not a great evidence, but Google 'PDQ Terminal' images and from the top row, 6 don't have swipes, 2 do. The 'backup' method is typing in the card details.

I'll have to pay more attention in the future though, as I'll admit I can't remember if the ones in my own shop have them now!

Tried on my 6P today, but won't work due to me changing the DPI with adb :( reverted back to stock API to add card, which worked but then went back to 400DPI and it wouldn't do the payment :(

Can't seem to find a workaround at the moment, anyone else have any luck?

How so? Mine is setup after a call to HSBC.

Not tested yet but I don't see anything to indicate it wouldn't work.
Doesn't work on some types of HSBC (legacy stuff) is what HSBC are saying. If you have a silver / orange card / the other high cards you're fine.

Samsung pay uses the mag system which is not insured in the UK anymore, that's why we all use chip and pin (where it is insured). I guess if banks were happy to use Samsung pay and underwrite the transaction themselves then they would go along with it but i suspect they won't as there is very very little reason to do so with our EMV environment in Europe. It's not a case of can't but rather why bother when we have better available?

Have been able to use it at the work canteen in the last 2 days. Convenient seeing as I forgot my wallet today :D
