I think the disgusting thing is that there is even a debate about whether this is disgusting or not. Really baffles me how anyone could consider a pic of a naked child disgusting. Do the same people get disgusted on the beach when kids are running around naked? Its perfectly normal and natural in most of the world.

For those who object to the sharing of the photo, if it were not posted on facebook, but were just posted on the photographer's professional website andor displayed in an art gallery, would you have the same objections?

I remember when the internet was for nerds, it was a better place back then :D

Haha so true

I miss these days more so the time where there was no site that was a huge platform. Before 2005 were people using "it has gone viral" back then? Across every TV, news and radio channel.
To whatever has gone viral these days no matter what it is, every radio host, TV presenter or news channel even shopping channels talk about it. A world wide web of gossips full of trivial things for the world to hear and see nowadays. While everybody and their granny, the village idiot, the down and outs in some of the taxi offices can all vent or start petitions for everyone to jump on. Woo it has gone viral, ALL ABOARD!

I truly miss the days where you only found out about this stuff if you knew certain people down the pub or your own community hall and the likes. I'm in no way referring to this threads photo article. Everything today you just need to look at what is going on. I really miss the days where I didn't know what crap people were up to or saying. Somebody somewhere will be talking about it be it public transport or a bus stop, you name it, it'll find you. Or somebody was offended. Bert and Ernie cakes. Draconian ways. Petition bandwagons. Cliches and soundbites.

Why do people feel the need to share every intimate detail of their lives on facebook?

....because they can. Remember a time only relatively knowledgable/wealthy people had cameras and video cameras. Remember the days how you had to manually process your negatives and videos?

Every tom, dick and harry didn't have a smart phone, dslr, computer, internet and you never got to find out about it. They moaned about their crappy jobs and lives towards other colleagues/friends and friends of friends. Now they have a whole freakin world platform.

Yep and back then people used to go around to their friends house and go through all their holiday photos etc. Now its just a lot easier to share the photos with friends via the internet. Nothing has changed.

Many people think strangers are interested in them. Let me tell it straight. Nobody cares!

Seriously, nobody cares!

Get over yourself!

Do I want to know what you had for dinner last night? Not really, to be honest, and don't take this the wrong way.....I really couldn't give monkeys. Sorry if that hurts any ones feelings.

I had chilli for dinner last night, home made, it was really nice. Does anyone care? NO!

The easy solution if you don't want to see loads of crap is to just add your actual friends and family instead of trying to look like mr popular with 500 "friends".

I wonder if there would have been such an uproar had this photo have been included in say a portrait exhibition instead of posted to Facebook? As Rilot so eloquently put its a great photo showing the fragility of a child and the love of a parent...

Nothing has changed? Yes it has, it has gotten a lot worse.

You can find out about all this crap even if you don't have social media accounts. It finds you. News, radio, tv, websites, friends, friends of friends talking about it in the street. A nation of gossips.

Sadly there still would be an uproar:

You've obviously never had to sit through 2 hours of your auntie showing her holiday slides :p. At least with social media you can simply ignore it. There really isn't a problem lol.

Heh, no I have not.

To a degree but sometimes in the real world you really feel like saying to some people to really shut the f.... up about it. You constantly keep talking about it. "Shut up already!"

I think in context its a lovely photo but its a personal photo of that family. I have no issues with it being taken but if it were me wouldn't have shared it online but each to their own.

Do people have 500 friends?

The vast majority of my 628 'friends' are people who come and watch my bands so it is a very useful tool for me.
The downside is I may get a picture of somebody's dinner or a woman who posts made up crap about the McCanns but I use a technique where I just scroll down which I will one day share with those who don't know how to do it.

My thoughts also.

I think it's a little bizarre to show such grotesqueries more than anything else, and is one example of why my Facebook feed is locked down so much with fbp.

So why haven't you locked down OCUK because the OP also linked to it?
99% of the stuff I see on Facebook ends up on here.
