Will be getting a g10 this week for my ref 980ti, do I really need to get heatsinks for the vram or will the fan blowing on them suffice? Also how good is the blower fan on the g10? Would I need to replace it with a "decent" one like a noctua?
What I've done to reduce cable clutter and if you're running out from fan headers is to use a Gelid braided vga pwm adapter and connect the 92mm fans to the fan controller on the gpu. That way an application like msi ab can control the fan speed but tbh even running the stock fan at 100% was relatively quiet. You could even use a pwm y adapter and connect two fans.
I changed my fan to a noctua redux as they were cheap and recommended at the time and if you find later down the line you're in the persuit of quietness then I would recommend them.
Using splitters, I have my rad fans connected to an aquabus fan controller and use profiles to control the fan speeds from the Windows application
I bought the gelid pwm vga cable and a 92mm Noctua redux to go with the g10 this morning before reading this lol
Finally putting the g10 on my 980ti. Got some of the heatsinks for the vram from ocuk, now I'm wondering should I have got some for the vrms also? If so are these ones fine to use https://www.overclockers.co.uk/watercool-passive-cooler-for-vga-ram-8-pack-hs-000-wc.html or are they too big?
Not having a problem without heatsinks, the G10 fan blows air over the graphics card as the original cooler did.
I have my fans connected to a Bitfenix Recon with the temp sensors on the radiators. Pumps are powered direct from a molex connector. Recon shows lower temps than actual GPU but once you know that things can be controlled sensibly.
GPU 1 peaks at 70, in game normal is 60 idle is 30. GPU 2 is about 10 deg cooler. I think Recon shows rad temps of up to 50.
Andi.
