Stay with 980 Ti or upgrade to 1080 ?

Well the reviews are up for the 1080 and it shows quite a leap from the 980 Ti which is impressive but really sad for me since I bought my 980 Ti in November last year seeing it beaten so fast where my 980 Ti had little usage (not reaching it's limits in games) and I'm in the same dilemma I was when I was wanting to buy 980 Ti out of fear that the Pascal will easily beat it so I'm generally curious what do you folk think.

While I don't regret buying my 980 Ti that late in the year even when Pascal was announced with it's die shrink I bought my 980 Ti because I was impatient and wanted a GPU to last me for couple of years playing games on 1440p but seeing how much increase the 1080 is I'm wondering is it a smart move to upgrade to 1080 or stay with my 980 Ti ?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in forward.

EDIT: I have MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming Edition (OC-ed), if anyone is wondering.

Please bear in mind... the SPONSORED reviews are up for the 1080 and it shows quite a leap from the 980 Ti

All the people given cards were hand picked by Nvidia. They all receive kickbacks from Nvidia in one way or another. For example Hardware Cannuks especially he gets sent to E3 by and for Nvidia. And unsurprisingly his results were the best of them all! hmmmm....

I really would be waiting for the Joe Public reviews...

If you can sell your ti for 400 and upgrade for 150 then yeah...

Or you can wait until the 1080ti but you will take a bigger hit on your 980ti when you come to move it on.

I chose the former...Right decision...? some will say yep some will say no

I might even get a 1070 yet :p

The correct answer is stay with your 980Ti. Reviews done by respectable sources are showing this basically:-

Stock 1080 vs Overclocked 980Ti shows 2-3% advantage to the 1080.

Overclocked 1080 vs Overclocked 980Ti shows 10-15% (some were even showing a max of 13%) advantage to the 1080.

You decide from that if it's worth it coming from your MSI 980Ti Overclocked card.

My answer is wait for 1080Ti or even Volta and see again, don't get pulled into the bogus hype of the 1080, the 1080 Founders Edition (reference) is a terrible card in the form it is in too as it throttles a lot. So don't even consider a 1080 FE from your card.

There is no correct answer. So get off your high horse.

The FE I agree but no one knows what the other cards will bring in terms of tweaks and pricing so your point is moot.

Depends if you're a sucker with more money than sense or not ;)

Seriously, if your 980ti is doing a good job, then wait for the prices on the 1080 to come down to non gouging levels.

You just said that your 980ti hasn't even been maxed out by any games. Why on earth would you then consider needing to upgrade it? Seriously some people here have more money than sense.

Buy the card that you need, not the best one just so you can brag about it.

i would stick with the 980ti, so what if the 1080 is faster its not as if the 980ti is not fast enough to play games, i learnt long ago not to get hung up on what others have in there sig and looking at the benchmarks, its only games and all will look the same with any of the higher spec cards

Mate more you post comments like that the more you make me realise how much you now regret selling your Asus 980Ti Poseidon, because you got caught up in all the scaremongering before the release of the 1080 reviews and its price.

Your Asus 980Ti Poseidon is becoming a Titanic disaster for you now I think, don't drag others into the same mistake that have a 980Ti.

You are now even considering a 1070 as the price is really silly for the 1080 as you know, but what you have not realized yet is the 1070 is slower than a 980Ti as you will see from the reviews when they get released. So you have basically sold a good card to get a card that is weaker and have to pay another £50+ on top for the 1070 of your liking if not more than £50+ if you want a 1070 Asus Poseidon again. That's what I call a downgrade not even a sidegrade.

The only benefit the 1070 has is 8GB VRAM... not like 6GB is a problem ... most games I play on a 3440x1440 sit around 2.5GB to 3.5GB VRAM ... Rarely do I see games try fill up the VRAM and the games that do that will even fill 12GB Titan X as they cache as much as they can in the spare VRAM, but it doesn't improve performance just makes loading a bit faster.

Don't become bitter mate... and make others make the same mistake. A lot of us told you to wait and don't sell and get pulled into the vultures games.

Spot on

My next card will be a 980ti ;)

Patiently waiting for the day they are abundant on the members market for under £200.

Won't be as long as you think :p

Yes won't be long ... Just have to wait for Volta to come out and double the performance then they will be £200 on the MM ..

They have gone back up since the release of the 1080 on the second hand market. ;) People have realized now that the 1080 and it's price is silly now. Many second hand sales have even been pulled I was watching a few on Ebay with EVGA 980Ti Classifieds as I thought if they go cheap enough I will just go SLI for a while and then wait it out till Volta Ti versions. Not one went for under £450 that I saw sold in UK and not a clear scam.

I'm looking forward to a boost on my x34;)..And please understand I regret selling it not one bit. seriously...

We'll see from the reviews...I'm waiting until the 1070 is realised before I decide. Its not that I have just one PC in the house...I'm spend most of my time in the studio and hardly game. But when I do find the time to game.. I like it to be an experience not a compromise.

I'm actually thinking sli 1070 not a single 1070...

So I'm sorry to burst your easyrider situation conjecture bubble but your post is pure fabrication on every level.
