Stay with 980 Ti or upgrade to 1080 ?

Sold my 980 Ti for 379 + Delivery. I don't see the Ti dropping to 200 until maybe there is some major price reshuffeling of the price of a new card (980 Ti Etc) which is at around 450-550.

After the idiot tax has expired on the 1080 and the 1070 is launched, there will be a price reshuffle.

A second hand 980ti at £200 is not all that far away.

Probably early next year I'd guess (after the 1080ti launch). I'm a patient man though ;)

Just checked what the 780 cost at launch, £550! I picked mine up second hand for £140....

If people using their PC in the open without a case then yea :p

The FE struggle to maintain the boost clock beyond the the base clock at around 1600-ish once it is inside a case and game for more than 4-10 minutes :p

The 1080 throttles because the default fan profile is far too relaxed. It looks like a terrible oversight from Nvidia but end users who know what they're doing will fix this instantly with their own fan profiles. For aftermarket cards, it won't be a problem at all.

I think upgrading from a 980 Ti to a 1080 purely for a performance jump is not worth it. Although if people are prepared to pay the difference then more power to them. I'm upgrading because of the lower heat and noise and that 10-15 FPS improvement is a big deal in a game like The Witcher 3 for example where it's the difference between turning Hairworks on or off. I'm also on a 100hz 3440x1440 screen so there's always increased performance to be had. I also get the chance of buying a hybrid which is what I should have done with my 980 Tis.

This contributed to my decision to sell my 980 Tis. I think they'll lose substantial value especially after the 1070s release.

At the current 1080 price point and performance, it is not a worthy upgrade from a 980ti. One would be better off buying a second 980ti to SLI and get a ton more performance for their money. If you have a 980ti currently, you'll be waiting till at least 1080ti or Vega to get a reasonable upgrade.

But......by selling a 980ti now for say £380 and buying a 1080 for £630 you are spending over £750 for not a lot more performance. I think better to keep the 980ti for a couple more years.

And your paying 1/3 extra for 10ish fps.....

I paid 390 for my 980ti a few months ago for a EVGA SC model and sold my 970 for £200 which i was happy as i blame my x34 for that but the increase at 1440p it was a lot more than 10fps over my 970.

Ok.......what if they are "only" £500.....that's still a total expenditure of £650 for not a lot more.

Was the same madness when the 980 came out, it was essentially a bit of a performance bump with an extra gig of ram over a 780 ti yet it was treated like the second coming. People only seemed to realise this a few months after it released.

keep dreaming on a £200 gtx 980 ti lmao the thing is a 980 ti is a powerful card
it can run 1440p very nicely it destroys 1080p, 780tis still reach 200 atm maybe in 3 years bud, & reason you got a 780 for £140 is because its 3 years old and has 3gb only, I actually traded mine into CEX for 130

ok on to the 1080 / 1070

the 1080 isnt going to magically gain tons of performance with an extra 6 pin
not going to happen, maybe 50-100mhz for a classified which will probs come in at £749 then a waterblock £849 all in.. hmm no thanks

1070 FE will be £409 lowest and probs £429 for an Asus variant
from the 1080 benches the 1070 will not be faster than a titan x or 980 ti
it maybe clock higher though thats about it, it will be a nice card but not for over £400
