Hi all, bit of a long shot but here it goes...

I'm visiting Chicago this Thursday/Friday. I've never been, but I've heard good stories about their 'Chicago pizza', (the deep-filled pie kind).

I'm wondering if there's anyone here who has been and can recommend a great pizza place!

Cheers.

Should take a Chicago pizza from asda or tesco over with you and then compare, if they dont match then complain to the pizza maker who sells Chicago town pizzas that they arnt authentic. :D

Watched a utube vid and noticed a brand so googled it and found this. Might be good place to try, lots of locations in Chicago.

I've lived in Chicago for a year and obviously a huge topic over there but to be fair you can't go wrong with either Gino's East, Giordano's or Lou Malnati's. Pequod's Pizza and Pizzeria Uno are also worth looking into. Word of warning is that they are very thick and filling, two people normally would struggle to finish a medium.

I went to Lou Malnatis when i was out there for work last year on the recommendations of the locals and it was very good - huge great big pies, as neoboy says they are amazingly filling! http://www.loumalnatis.com/

The customer we were visiting then got the same in for lunch the next day and nearly put everyone into a food coma.

An update!

So I just got back from eating at Ginos East. I went for the deep dish Ginos supreme. It was amazing, I couldn't finish a 'small' one

Pic to follow when I'm home

I'd love to try a proper Chicago pizza, they look amazing.

So how does it compare to a Chicago town frozen pizza? :p

Even a mention of that in Chicago would have you shot ;)

Now go try the rest of the great food in Chicago, the hot dogs, Italian beef and some of the amazing Mexican seafood restaurants.

Sorry I couldn't upload sooner, work and all that!

I only took a couple of pics, it was so dark in Ginos. I enjoyed the pizza with a bottle of Stones IPA (7.7%)

Maybe I am alone, but the loose consistency and inability to discern the ingredients of this does not make it look very appetizing.
- unfortunately the pizza dough thread is consecrated to the New York nemesis of the Chicago pizza, so no comparative reference images/discussions of home made Chicago versions.

Oh don't worry, it didn't look this messy for long.....I inhaled it pretty fast! :D

Mother of god that looks incredible. I've always wanted to sample Chicago's deep dish pizza's! So jealous!
