Thinking of getting a littlw blow torch for the kitchen for searing/browning things etc .

Is it important to buy something specific for the rolenor will any old blow torch work

I have a Rothenberger one like this,

http://www.plumbcenter.co.uk/produc...azing-torch/?gclid=CLKiyevW98wCFQWfGwod2b8GyQ

Then MAPP cylinders. That's basically the best option/package.

How quick do you go through tbe gas?

It's not going to get used a massive amount but it is something is like to know is always gonna work when i grab it if you know what i mean rathet than the kind of mikey mouse "chef blowtorchs" you see for a tenner in asda.

Gonna be grtting a sous vide set up soon and think torch moght be good for searing off the meat etc

Oh and what do you guys use as a base for torching stuff.

Guessing stick it in some kindnof uncoated pan like stainless or cast iron/carbon steel?

Or is the flame concentrated enough you could do it over a board without atarting a house fire :p

I'm going to have to get your renamed to Glaucus if you continue to type like that :p

If you want something cheap just get the cheapest butane torch you can from somewhere like B&Q. If you want to go crazy and get something really awesome then get a Searzall.

Yeah but "bloeto4ch" nareows it down to about 500 ttpes styles and fuels :p

But they're all much of a muchness, just go to store and pick one. Only a few choices, nozzle size, ignition system or no ignition system. What canister size is easy and cheap to get hold of in your local store.

And that's hardly a bad post for me.
Edit - misread what you said.
Thought you meant rename me,

.fair enough i wasnt too sure if there was something specific to aim for cookery wise.

I think there have been other discussions about using butane since the MC thing that suggest that it's not such an issue - possibly only because the people testing were careful to ensure a good clean burn of the gas though.

If you go the Searzall route you can't use MAPP sadly as it gets too hot.
