So after being forced into win 10 I went to revert back to Win 7 and now my pc won't boot at all. It goes to start up repair then goes straight to 'cannot repair this computer'!

How can I get round this? Do I need to reinstall win 7 ? After this will I be able to restore my pc from a back up?

This isn't annoying at all

first step i would take is trying to repair the installation. If you have a windows 7 disk you should be able to boot from it and attempt to fix the install.

If you have any way of backing up your data i would do that first... annoying to say the least.

I'd imagine something along the lines of \\192.168.x.x\foldername (where 192.168.x.x is the IP of your NAS, and foldername is the location on the NAS where you saved your backup files)

You can boot from a Windows 7 installation media to recover system images (assuming you made the images using Windows Backup, rather than some 3rd party tool), you'll need to press F8 to get a command prompt up and type "wpeutil -initializenetwork" to get your network card working though.

Back to basics...Can you get into Safe mode? F8 on startup for the options.

I would not reinstall unless you are 100% you have a valid backup. Recovering what is currently there is your best option.

Always test your backup solution before relying on it.

This.

If you have anything important on that drive I would take the hard drive out and transfer any data you need from it to somewhere else before trying anything else.

Then reinstall/recover Windows as desired.

Folks. Does a back up copy all pictures videos music ?

I have an old drive which I last backed last July which it accepting. Thinking of restoring from that then hopefully restoring from the wd! Cloud.

How long is a piece of string?

It depends what type of backup you did. You could set a backup to only copy 1 file if you wanted, or multiple files/folders or a whole system backup (everything).

There are thousands of different backup products / methods of backing up.

Right, I had an HDD which i did a back up on last August. Ive used that and its restored my PC but obviously to that point in time.

I have a recent back up on my WD Cloud drive but for some reason when i bring up system restore the recent back up is not listed.

is there a way to get it to see it and restore windows?

EDIT; tried ringing micrsoft support and keep getting cut off. Im not angry, Honest.

If you were using the built in Windows 7 backup utility you can just browse the backup file and via it's contents by double clicking on it (Like a folder).

As said above there are so many methods of backing up you will need to follow the restore process applicable to that.

Unfortunately you have likely now missed your opportunity to get at your files - If the files were important I'd have been making sure I could guarantee the backup is restore-able. Hence why I made the suggestion of removing the drive from the machine and copying important data off before going any further.

:EDIT: Microsoft won't help you...Your data is your own responsibility.

the whole back up and all files are on the wd cloud, i can see them, over a terabyte of stuff.

I just need to find a way of getting the system restore to load from it.
