Dogs are not humans, you should be really cautious around applying human traits and preferences to animals.

Agreed, dogs have their own personalities but you should never treat them as humans, any animal has the tendancy to "flip-out" and animal instincts can take over.

Of course some humans are the same, but generally as unbalanced individuals who could benefit from professional help of some type.

Funny you should say this, as last night we had a problem with our new puppy who had an accident in the crate. However it's her first and is unusual.

I did some research on this very subject, and can only pass on what I have read. If they are doing it consistently then you have to try feed them earlier and walk them late before bed and make them go before they are put in the crate.

It isn't meant to be something dogs do. They like a clean den supposedly.
Going back to what we are doing with treat/praise reward. Try on a late walk when they do go outside, rewarding accordingly.

I don't think there is anything else I can offer as I know only the stuff I am learning online.
