OcUK being greedy?

I certainly won't be getting gfx cards from anywhere else, especially how OcUK supported us all during the 970 returns. Can't think of another etailer who did that!!!!!

Gotta laugh at people whinging about OCUK's pricing. I would happily pay the extra to get decent after-sales service especially when compared to the other two. At least OCUK value their customers.

Somebody's job at OCUK is to make sure 'profit margins' maintain a sufficient level. People will buy their stock, so it's just a matter of squeezing the most money as possible. They don't even need to be flexible. Mark Proudfoot has a nice mansion in Jersey because of it.

Another vote for support to OCUK pricing. Might not be the cheapest but havent regretted paying bit more for the service. They have been great and communicating with people.

As for the NV prices, they are set my NV. If you do not like then, buy AMD.

TBF i would spend and extra 10-20 quid over the MRRP with overclockers. They have great customer service, you can get a hold of some one to help very easily. They are very helpful and use a great delivery/courier system and if your a loyal member in the forums you get free delivery. To me that would justify spending that bit extra over buying from other websites i have bought from before where you can be waiting literally 72 hours for a reply and find they just dont care.

With ocuk u have that piece of mind and they have a reputation of being one of the best if not the best IMO UK online retailer for PC parts.

Anyone buying the Fail Edition deserves to be ripped off :p

+1.

People may have there own reasons they use to justify it but at the end of the day the FE starting price is not justified. We'll probably see only a handful of cheaper 1080's and they'll be using the old 680 style blower or a low quality fans shroud.
Performance should drop down a rung as we saw with the 680 to 770, We should not be paying extra for the extra grunt on a generational crossover. A 1080 costs more than a 980 ti and that shouldn't be the case. It should be closer to a 980 today. Not a 980 on release because that was them testing the waters and because they sold in droves they are now asking prices that are not fair. At the end of the day the consumer get's treated like a mug because he deserves to be.

And the guy worked damn damn hard for it tbh!! Good on him imo :)

Yeah, but as an educated consumer I like to know how much wholesale v retail costs, with any markups involved.

When I even mention such things, I get castrated. In reality, there have to be some hefty markups for OCUK to be paying salaries and profiting tremendously. When I see all the feel-good defensive force in action it makes me . There's nothing wrong with being a little better informed. Or is there???

Greedy, no. Buyers make an informed decision to purchase and their wallets suffer the hit, not yours, not mine.

The sensible £ friendly option is to wait a few months for prices to level out, or buy a used previous gen and save a fortune.

Perhaps the Don's should start closing threads like this or if that is too harsh around GPU release police the nondescript threads a bit more ?

Just a suggestion.

Oh I don't know. I take your point and understand it, but if they censor threads like this the OP just feels unfairly put upon. If they let it run its course it inevitably ends up with a string of informed posts about how good the quality of service is and that if you're buying something that costs £620, <5% for getting it from somewhere that you know actually has in stock what they say they can provide and that you wont have to worry about issues with, which ultimately explains why most of us here buy from OCUK by preference.

OP is free to buy from wherever and I respect that. But without knowing the margins on these things, deals and reliability in actually having things in stock, I don't think you can really support "greedy" as a criticism. I mean the difference between £5 and £25, is quite a lot. The difference between £610 and £630 is pretty small, even though both differences are £20.

Do OCuk have higher prices? Not that I would class them in any way greedy. They have their business model, they price based on the deals they have. IF you don't like it go elsewhere. I am sure if you check the prices on every site you would find that there is somethings cheaper and other things more expensive than Ocuk

But, one thing that you can't put a price on, and that is their amazing customer service. I once bought a graphics card for my brother for Xmas, it got lost and never arrived, I contacted OCuk on the 21st of December and explained the situation to them. They not only replaced the missing card without a fuss, they also took a hit on delivery and managed to get the replacement card to me in time for Christmas.

Can't get any better than that.

Or maybe people can have some self control and wait until the cards hit their desired price levels?? Its not like AMD or Nvidia are holding a gun to your head to buy their cards now and its summer and it is not like we are seeing any major game releases for a while.

If you want to buy new shiny right at launch you will find more often than not you might pay beyond the odds if many people are feeling the same.
