*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Reddit has an interesting couple of threads. The meta alloys not being available is a bug (you cant get any ATM) and frontier are working on it.

The best one is somebody is on their way back to habitable space and stopped off at a planet ovbernifgt with the rest of his hops planned. After the update last night, he is now stuck as they have made a whole load of planets and area's requiring unknown permits... Even the planet he is on requires one. So he is essentially stranded. :(

Clearly not good for the Commander currently stranded.

However, are you saying that now, deep unexplored space requires a Permit to access some parts of it? That to me makes no sense at all.

All he needs to do is load the non horizons client, he will be asked if he wishes to recover to orbit, problem solved.

There's at least one sector well away from the bubble that's been part 'closed off' in that respect since day one.

Find his own fix then...

Updated:

He has found a route out

yep, i found my way to 69 lambda eridani from where i was, and i can get a route to sol. still extremely annoyed that i couldn't complete my trip, but i'm also kinda excited about planning a new one now. might as well visit some of these exploration engineers since i got messages and bookmarks for two of them now.
I was sure this was a bug when i discovered i was locked out of HIP 23874. it just doesn't seem right that they'd lock us out of some of those real life stars that we want to explore. i've been exploring the constellations since the game launched, eager to visit them all and see every inch of every real star in them. making it to lepus, i'm roughly halfway through that journey going alphabetically through the constellations.
now, that plan is ruined.

Just found an reported a bug. Picked up a transport mission. Nearly reached the destination and was redirected to another target location for delivery. Went there and was unable to complete the mission.
Raised a ticket, dumped the gear and it looks like support then cancelled my fine.

Unfortunately, happened again 45 mins later. Updated my ticket and have logged for a few hours.

Logged on last night, did some mining in my Annie.

Got scanned by an imp courier, left me alone when i had 0 in cargo, as soon as I had 1 piece of ore he just went to town, ripped my shields down in seconds lol. I had to jump out at 10% hull, not fun mining I can say.

Does that sounds like improved AI?

Indeed the whole piracy mechanics need a sort out, and this goes for NPCs too. ie: They need to give their terms, and be more logical about it.

"Come to a halt and prepare to be scanned..."

"Give me X tons of Y..."

Rather than... Immediate, mindless pewpewpew death...

No, but it's pretty much exactly the same as I have experienced in open by human commanders...

I always ask for tribute if I'm pirating. It adds to the whole rpg side of it. Stand and deliver! But if they run, and they always do, then I cut it out of them.

It does indeed and I've always enjoyed those sorts of moments, but the few that kill on sight for no reason have made me move to Mobius which is a shame, though I do need to try open again to see how it is with the apparent increased security responses in patrolled systems.

There's a problem here...

When interdicted by CMDRs (when you don't have a bounty etc), it'll typically go one of two ways:-

1) A good attempt at using the poor piracy mechanics to actually pirate you. You'll get an immediate set of instructions, and even if you don't adhere to them and run, you'll typically get shot, hatch breakers used, or force used to try and make to stop and comply.

Ideally you will not be destroyed, and good clear coms will take place.

2) You're being interdicted to be destroyed for the lolz!

If you're saying FD have improved their AI by making NPCs behave as in (2), then surely that's not great. They should be aiming at (1) surely?

Approach (2) really has little/no place in the game.

It was meant as sarcasm, I am in no way saying that it's good for AI to do that :)

Understood...

And this NPC behaviour (non-existent piracy mechanics) is all tied up to no.(1) on my previous list of a 9-10 things (#3687) I would like to have seen addressed before we got a bucket of development time spent so can have 10% more powerful X on module Y.

I don't think FD really know what they're doing. I've played since beta and they're still buffing, nerfing and (not) fixing things that should have been right, well at least before Horizons dropped.

Woah be tied anyone who dare criticise the game on the official forums, the natives are out in force with the pitchforks.

That I've known, but surely they can't just create a few more this late in the day?

Wait until all the crafted weapons/mods properly drop in too. I predict loads of balancing issues, with many people simply having to run because they have X while the NPC/CMDR has Y...

I suspect the organised PvP matches will probably ban modified modules too in an attempt to try and keep a modicum of balance to the affair.

How is that different to any other online game that is under continued development? In an idea situation games would never need continued tweaking but they all do, it's a fact of online gaming and continued development.

Well of course they will, it's pretty obvious if they want a balanced PvP tourney it will be a specific loadout just as it always has been, again, no different to many other games.

Has the UI changed much?

Reading that the size of text has been changed to try and make things more clear resulting in the outfitting UI becoming a dogs dinner?
