In response to a different thread and a comment Gibbo made, I felt this only fair. Checking the price of this card, OcUK are considerably cheaper than the competition and with free shipping for loyal forum members, it is even cheaper, so well done OcUK on a really competitive price

Free shipping for everyone.

I'm still interested whether the extra power connectors actually matter for overclocking. I doubt it tbh.

It may make a difference in this case, as the reference card has been shown to power throttle even under water where temperature isn't a concern.

Although JayzTwoCents just put up a video using the EVGA SC model, which also has a single 8-pin, and he was getting close to a 2.1GHz boost clock stable, since the card allows you to jack the power limit up to 120% it seems, even with the single 8-pin.

Yer, that first vid was my eye opener. I will be eventually putting a block on it as well, so cool temps 24/7 FTW :)

To get higher overclocks, it looked like he was power throttled and dropping the mem voltage helped give the core moar Hz but it could well have been a combination of both. I would rather have extra power than not though, so always looking for that extra pin and the card I liked had it.

Fraid knot :p

Ha, you stitch me up with your witty banter :D

I tabbed between here and the other place and soon as I see here had them showing, I ordered. Pleased with the price in truth and sure beats that silly FE price but I can see why people would want the ref cards but to me they are just OTT on price when they should be cheaper than the custom cooled cards.

But is the power issue a physical limitation or a bios limitation?

No reason an 8 pin plug can't provide more power. Most of them have another 8 pin daisy chained next to them on PSUs so on that side 300W is fine (100W per 12v wire).

I've also taken an original 780 way the 300W (slot, 6 pin and 8 pin) it's connectors are rated for by using a custom bios, a boatload of voltage and a waterblock. The custom bios had 100% set to 300W with afterburner allowing for 300% and at 1.4v I was hitting 120-130% power.

Not sure P but will be able to have a good fiddle when I get the card and see what is going on. I can put the card on a separate PSU and monitor the wattage and see what it is pulling but yer, I would have expected a 8 pin to cope but time will tell.

Agreed good price atm, I just pre ordered the FTW as well, hoping to get a block for it ASAP.

I thought there was ETA's on these when i first looked but they're gone now, any ideas when they are due in?

I'm sure EKWB wont be long in getting a block revision out for it.

my system is a mini ITX X99 & Titan X in a tiny 250d case (both under water and overclocked to the max) so although a bit of a side grade it's the lower power / Heat I'm hoping for.

Plus it new n shiney - shiney :p

Yeah pre ordered the FTW as well :). My first EVGA card, looking forward to it. OC said they will know more about stock next week so hopefully they will have enough.

I switched from a G1 gaming to the FTW, my first EVGA as well. From a bit of reading online, it seems EVGA is one of the best board partners out there.

yeah to be fair, the other place started off cheaper, but then their shipping estimate is the 17th June so it was no contest really, assuming OC do start to get some in next week

Any ideas how the FTW will fair against the Classified? Will there be a difference with OC ability given power differences?

Cheers :)
