CII proposes husbands be allowed to ‘lightly beat’ defying wives

Religion has nothing to do with it. It's cultural, like arranged marriages or honour killings.

LOL as if Religion is somehow separate to the culture in this instance...

it is a religious body, providing religious guidance to law makes - religion has everything to do with it

this isn't the same as arranged marriages and honour killings

When it comes to stoning and such, that is strictly cultural. You would find they would have done the same hundreds of years before Islam even reached the Indian subcontinent. But their word has no legal significance, Pakistan is not a theocracy.

Quran (4:34) - "Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High.

Why would they bother to introduce a law that they don't agree with?
They want to beat their women.
It is what they do.
Now they are enshrining it in their legislation, for just how much beating she should receive.

I know that, and you are right they do just want to beat them, the reason i said ban it is because that is what a rational government would do, Pakistan isn't and Islam would be in the way also.

It wasn't a dig at you.

I'm still waiting for B&W's response or anyone else's to my question earlier regarding the ME and it's prosecutions of wife beaters.

what does stoning have to do with the thread?

reminder: we're talking about a religious body that advises Pakistani lawmakers and their recommendation re: men beating their wives lightly

you're claiming it has nothing to do with religion and have then set up a few straw men to attack such as honour killings and stoning which are not the topic of the thread

Religion has nothing to do with it.

How can it not be, it is written so in the Quran, have a good read.

"Surah An-Nisa, 34 passage on the social interaction between husbands and wives defines the husband and wife relationship in Islam, with interpretation subject to debate among Muslim scholars (or 'jurists'). Quran 4:34 reads,

Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and separate from them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.
"

Name me a country over there that is primarily Islamic that has laws to protect women from being beaten and treated as 2nd class and are followed through to prosecution?

My post was in reply to your general comments about Islam and Muslims, don't try to divert it to how a third world country with poor literacy has poor laws for protection of women.

Doesn't make the people a joke or to be seen as barbarians, in fact i guarantee a lot of them will have better manners and hospitality then hateful bigots like yourself.

Winner

...drinking wife beating strength larger... I guess at least these Pakistani husbands won't have that additional catalyst :)

I dunno like...laws like that are pretty much the definition of barbarity. Although in their defense it does state 'lightly beat'. I guess that's their manners and hospitality shining through!

It is amazing how some people on here spin their utter BS into words so as to not make what they believe in sound bad, or something like that :D

We have only had the one so far i think? They are slacking, i need my bigot and knuckle dragger fix.

Instead of all the waffle can you tell me what your opinion is if this law is passed in Pakistan.
