Where would you recommend?

Has to have a lot of places to visit/things to see..not looking to have a mental clubbing style weekend away but more like booking a quirky AirBnb and exploring.

Thinking Cambridge/Oxford type places...thoughts?

Would be travelling on the train from London so around 1.5 hours maximum.

York is a possible. Time is about right, and there's a lot of history. But it all depends what type of things you want to do. Explore old buildings? Check out Cathedral cities, for instance.

Southern out of Victoria or London Bridge to East Grinstead then swap to the Bluebell Railway. Stop at every station and have a look around then finish at Sheffield Park and walk to Lewes.

That's a good days adventure

I would drive around the Cornish coastline and explore that. Magical place.

For more urban places, York, Bath and surprisingly....Nottingham. This city has a bit of everything. Also worth a trip to Sherwood Forest if you are driving.

Lol really? People really want to come here.

Maybe as a local I don't appreciate its "beauty".

My vote is for York though, amazing city.

What happened to the 'If it's outside of Yorkshire, it ani't worth bloody going' Geoffrey Boycott type way of talking about your home county?

He recommended York. the heart of the great county.

No don't worry, we know there's only an aquarium there. And i'm not interested in your phone company. :p

Nott's is quite nice surprisingly though as a second vote. good if you like castles, caves and rock music + beer

I can recommend:

- Harrogate
- Stratford-upon-Avon
- York
- Keswick
- Bath
- Cardiff (yes, really! Though don't think this can be done in 1.5 hrs from London)

Most of Norfolk and Suffolk are also really interesting for exploration and spectacularly beautiful in areas in the coast. Easily accessible from London too. King's Lynn is a good base for Norfolk.
