Hello

With the upgrade of my gpu to the new 1080, I'm thinking of stepping up from my 60hz 1080p Samsung to a G-Sync monitor.

I was thinking of purchasing the the Acer Z35, since the resolution is not too demanding and I can make use of the high refresh rate?

Is the monitor any good? I've read that it has issues with color transitions and smearing from black colors at high refresh rates.

Is the Z35 worth it? Or should I look at something that's not ultra wide like the XB271HU? My budget is around £600.

I think if you were prepared to ignore the higher refresh rates then it still may be a very capable monitor with impact rather than the best image. I'm still considering one for my sim rig as it beats having multiple monitors at least.

"The very high refresh rates enabled by the overclocking feature couldn't really be fully realised though sadly, as we felt that response times were just not fast enough to handle the frame rate demands, and the overshoot introduced by the aggressive overdrive circuit was too obvious. It's still very capable as a VA option with a high refresh rate of 120Hz, with G-sync and ULMB support but the 200Hz overclocking feature couldn't quite keep up sadly."

I've watched a youtube vid that shows the overdrive issue. It looks a bit like phosphor lag on a plasma if you're familiar with that - but rather than green/yellow trails following objects more a dark blue fringe preceding them. I'm super fussy about these things and that was enough to put me off.

Z35 is a good choice

Use DSR for 3413/1440 res at 144hz :D
