Hi All,

I'll be building a gaming pc from scratch and have a budget around £600

I want to be able to play Overwatch, minimum system specs are here:
https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/7636

I have a mouse, keyboard, monitor etc that I can use so it is just the case & all components.

What parts would you recommend? Would it be better buying a pre-built PC at this budget range?

Also, should I hang on till mid June before I purchase a GPU in the hope that prices will drop due to the new Nvidia cards?

Cheers

My brother has an old PC that he doesn't use anymore which has:

Intel Core Duo E6850 - 3 ghz
ASUSTEK P5n32-E SLI (motherboard)
GeForce GT 730
8gb RAM

Would any of these be useful for my build to save some money or am I best just going for all new parts?

It seems like AM4 and Bristol Ridge chips will be announced tomorrow. I would hold off.

I won't be buying it till later next week anyway, thanks.

Is it worth waiting till mid June for the Nvidia GPU's to be released too or will this not make a difference to the prices?

Cheers

It would be worth seeing what the Polaris GPU's have to offer at the end of June

Thanks Stulid, I will be buying today then. I think I'll hold back on a monitor for now and do a bit more research as I have my brothers one for now.

One final question - will this build be adequate for some streaming on the likes of twitch? Or is an i7 required for this?

If I wanted to upgrade to an i7 spec for streaming purposes how much extra would I be looking at?

stulid, an i7 is above my budget and I've read that an i5 can just about do the job on low fps.

Would I see a big difference in streaming if i was to get the 6600k i5 over the 6400 that you originally specced? I could stretch an extra £40.

Also, will the mobo and everything else still be compatible for the 6600k or would i have to change my build completely? I am ready to hit the buy button before the delivery cut off for today !

Would a PentiumK overclocked possibly give better results than a 2.7ghz i5?

The money saved would be the exactly the difference between 960gfx and a 970.

The PentiumK could be upgraded next year.

Edit: just seen:
Also can you recommend a cheap gaming monitor for around £100-£150?

I think I'd be switching to an AMD build and a freesync type monitor. Though I don't know if I could ever go back to non IPS colour anymore :(

Edit2: Hmm, there is an IPS 21:9 monitor at £150:

Edit:3 25" inch is way too small for 21:9. 24inch IPS look to start at the £159 price point.

Hi,

If you get a i5 6600K you would also want a Z170 based motherboard to make the most of it.

The K cpu has an unlocked multiplier so can be overclocked with a Z170 board.

The 6600K will work in the H110 board but can't be overclocked.

Also a K skylake cpu does not include a heatsink, the others do.

If you want to spend £20 more then the i5 6500 runs at 500mhz more than the 6400.

I will change the 6400 to 6500 then, it still comes under my £600 budget.

Does this basket seem right to you? Everything compatible?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £586.39
(includes shipping: £12.60)
