Bulk buying - shopping

I do a quarterly shop at Costco for bulk stuff. Not only do we save a bit of money but it helps cut the weekly shop down and makes it quicker and easier.

Costco sometimes have great deals on random stuff as well, i probably don't break even when you add up the impulse buys.... :p oh well!

I love Costco! While not everything is worth it, lots of everyday items are much cheaper and better quality to boot.

Things we buy in bulk:

* Washing up powder/tablets
* Dishwasher tablets
* Toilet Roll
* Kitchen Roll

At wherever is having them on sale. Sometimes Amazon can be a good place.

We also bulk buy chicken breasts from our butcher. £25 gets us about 23-26 chicken breasts which we dice and freeze. Not a huge saving but the quality is so much better than supermarket meat and works out slightly cheaper per breast.

I bulk buy meat from online butchers, but from makro and cost o wholesalers generally it is things like loo rolls, kitchen towel, soaps / cleaning liquids etc...

I assume the nappies/wipes you buy are pampers/branded right, I couldnt see anything other than the big brands there. We use the Aldi ones, just found them the best and they're half the price.

Interesting to know, Aldi is where I buy my staples except for goat milk, back in my day 12/13 years ago any cheap nappies were a guaranteed nappy rash so glad to see Aldi winning again.

We have a few cheap butcher places round here all selling bulk packs although I'd say the meat is a little suspect, no origin or slaughter house label on the packs. ;)

As has been mentioned previously, the big cost savers, as far as I can make out, are

loo roll
Kitchen roll
Washing up liquid,
Dishwasher tablets
Laundry supplies (washing powder, softener etc.)
Bottles water
Cheese is stupidly cheap
Cereal
Pizzas
Rice
Clothes
Car stuff (microfibres towels, oil etc...)

I find a lot of the food isn't necessarily that much cheaper, but usually really tasty. Bangkok prawns, Goyza, peaking duck, cottage pie, curry etc...

We shop there a fair bit. It's 50 miles from us though, but then it's only 10 miles from my work.

Plus, you can't beat a hot dog and drink for £1.50.

My main Costco staples are toothpaste, bottled water (see below), and petrol from the Costco petrol stations. If I had the freezer space, I would also buy some of Costco's frozen meat and frozen fruits and vegetables.

A thread about bulk buying to save money and everybody's buying bottled water? :confused:

The municipal water in San Diego tastes disgusting, and I don't have the storage capacity for a large filter in my shared house. I could buy something like a Brita jug filter but bottled water is as cheap as chips (well, even cheaper :D). I will be buying a Big Berkey when I do have the space though. :) The water that comes out of Berkey filters is some of the best that I've ever drank.

One of my housemates buys a lot of the household supplies from Costco, like:
- kitchen towel
- toilet wipes
- laundry detergent
- washing up liquid
- rubbish bags

We dont buy Bottled water in Surrey, champaign comes out of the tap. No one here likes it and it hurts to wash your face in the morning but its a luxury we will endure so we dont drink the same water as the peasants.

We also bulk buy quadruple ply toilet-paper and have a machine combine and double the thickness as it is more expensive

We dont have kids though, they are just far too expensive.
