Okay so I just purchased my gaming rig with a MSI 1080 GTX ROG card, now I had a conversation with a friend yesterday as i'm now awaiting shipment of the parts.

Anyhow we discussed how i'm going to be using the PC on a 1080p HDTV (Sony KDL-46HX923 to be precise), I really don't have the room to put a desk or monitor anywhere, although I will be using a KB & mouse when playing FPS's, controller for 3rd person games.

Basically my question is, will I notice any improvements over my PS4? I'm starting to worry now that i've spent £1,400 for literally nothing.

In short yes, you will notice improvements.

Higher frame rate, more details.
TBH that system will probably be overkill for 1080p 60 frames a second but with super sampling in newer games you'll get a whole heap of extra eye candy.

You might notice the biggest difference if you try to go back to console gaming heh - I know a couple of people who weren't that impressed after spending 1+ grand on a gaming PC until they tried playing some of the games on console again :S

Personally I find the difference huge but not everyone will find it as night and day.

TVs don't make the best monitors though and 1080 at 46" is going to mean some pretty big pixels compared to a smaller dedicated monitor with the same or better resolution.
Andi.

PC gaming on a TV is far from ideal and you don't need anything like a GTX 1080 for 1920x1080 to power a HD TV.

You have more performance over the PS4 but nothing like £1400 worth, and not on a TV.

If there's any sense of disappointment it will be down to your display device. Even though with the 1080 GPU you'll be able to play any game you choose at Ultra settings with all the bells & whistles enabled, it's still got to stretch 1080p of resolution onto a giant 46" screen. So each pixel is going to appear much larger than it would on a 1080p monitor, which are typically 27" at the largest. This might mean some of the benefits of being able to run at higher detail settings are offset. But it's still going to give you a better experience than a PS4 so it's not wasted money and you have the option of adding a 1440p or 4k monitor later if space allows.
