I've done a bit of research on the internet and the general consensus is ignore these fines, however I have a feeling the laws have changed on this recently.

I could appeal but I'm not too sure on what grounds other than it was late in the evening (what scum charges for a carpark in the middle of nowhere late in the evening).

End of the day what's the worst that can happen if i ignore the letters get summoned to court who make me pay the company for loss of earnings (£1.20/hr) and costs?

I would ignore not because you can legally but because in my limited experience they hardly ever chase them up.

If it was council issued however .....

Not an expert but the general advice these days is that these can't now be ignored.

Head over to pepipoo forums for advice.

This: you can't ignore it, but chances are you'll successfully appeal it with the advice you get on pepipoo.

Dear Premier Park,
I am writing to inform you that to the best of my knowledge, the driver at the time you state was:

Karen O'Matthews
The Hobby Prestige 6 Birther
Tolney Lane Traveller's Site
Newark
NG24

I cannot assist you any further than that.
Yours faithfully.

There's templates out there to respond, so it's not difficult. Expect the first appeal to be denied and then raise it to POPLA.

Depends how much the 50 quid is worth to you. I dont think I could be arsed spending the time trying to send bogus appeals for the sake of that much money. You definitely can't ignore it but you could probably fight it - although in this instance it sounds like any appeal would be pretty tenuous so likely to drag on a bit. In my mind I'd be conscious that if they took it to court, they'd probably win provided they've got the proper signage and processes in place. They often won't go to court but if they do that 50 quid would increase significantly.

Pay it or go to pepipoo for advice, but prepare for a significant amount of ballache if you go down the appealing route

Appeal it will get denied, you will be issued with a popla code, appeal there with one of the many templates on the web. Wait a while and watch it be squashed.

Do not ignore it

Use the usual template that goes along the lines of, "please provide proof of measurable loss due to me parking there" and so forth.

This, they then have to justify how parking there for 30 minutes at 8pm is worth £85, which in no way will they manage.

There have been cases where courts have sided with the parking companies, so it would seem that they could manage it

I think this is going to be the basis of my appeal. If it was £50/25 I would just pay it but their greed is excessive and far beyond any losses they could possibly incur.

Before I put my appeal in I'll go back and look at the signage to see if that can add anything.

I'll keep you posted.

The charge isn't for £85, it's for £50 unless you don't pay within 14 days of issue. Even then the charge of £50 isn't for the 30mins, it's for the fact it costs them to monitor the car park and then issue the bill for any infringement.

The question is the £50 charge fair, my brother went to court once over a parking charge and lost so had to pay the charge.
