Hi,
I have very Basic dash cam no gps or that sort of thing, I have reported a very dangerous school bus driver, I wouldn't normally do this but due to the fact he put kids in danger any how, I may have been doing a tad over 70 on the motor way and was wondering if they got a bit cleaver would they be able to work out my speed and do me as well?

Meh if everyone was helpful the internet would be boring (and worrying).

Depending on your definitions of a "tad" I doubt they'd notice nor care.

Lol yes you're right

Erm around 80'ish

Obvious question is what did the bus do? And can we see it?

As for doing 80 I guess it depends on other factors road conditions/traffic and how zealous the person who reviews the video is.

Although anecdotal I was doing 80 on a motorway at night didn't even notice it was a police car until they overtook me. 3 years later and unless Royal Mail has seriously upped their game then the police weren't overly bothered :D.

Bus ran a red light right, joining the road I was on forcing me abd others to stop then just stopped in the outside lane of a dual carriage for around a minute then cut across the inside lane to take a left turn to a side street. And no you can't see not sure of the legalities of uploading something the police have requested, plus just watched the full journey on the the laptop and I was over taken quite a few times so don't think I have any worries.

Wow yeah I can understand the need to report that.

Sorry I didn't consider any legal aspect of uploading the video.

Had it been just another car driver I'd not bother reporting it, but a school type bus, kinda takes the **** he / she shouldn't be trusted with care of these kids.

I suppose they could take two static objects from your video, go out and measure the distance between them and then time how long it takes you to get from to the other. From that they could calculate a rough speed.

I thought that to be able to give a penalty for speeding the police need to use a calibrated device that is very accurate. Your dash cam would not be accurate enough. But what do I know?

You'll be fine unless the bus driver is having an affair with the Chief Commissioner. If so, you're ****ed.

Calculating the speed based on a moving vehicle is a lot harder than measuring the time it takes to travel between two fixed points and getting the average speed between them.

If they mention it, just say "Why's it always have to be about me?!" then burst into floods of tears.

just slow the video down to 7/8ths of the speed and they'll never know ;)

I don't imagine that they would go to the technical effort of proving your speed on a random dashcam since there are factors like the above that could never be fully accounted for without a calibrated device as someone else mentioned. Also as above if your speedo was 80 then you were probably doing 72-4. If you're saying about 80 on the basis your speedo was reading 90 then it's another matter.
But I'm not the police so who knows.

edit: alternatively speed it up to double speed and add the benny hill music and they'll definitely never know.
