Hey I've been looking around and I can't pick a monitor I was gonna get a 4K but then I looked at the 34x so what do you guys think I should get 4K or 21.9

4k is awesome but VERY hungry gfx power wise. If you plan to run one card then go 21:9 imo as it's less taxing on your system.

The X34 is pretty damn good, I've had one :)

I'm getting EVGA 1080 FTW and a 2nd one later on

If you prefer higher Hz then get the X34. If you'd prefer better pixel density then get something like the Acer XB321HK.

I've had both and decided to keep the XB as it was better for my needs and I LOVE it tbh  I have it about 20 inches from my face and I love its quality, esp in something like The Division which I'm hammering a bit at present.

Whatever you get, make sure it has Gsync as it helps a LOT ;)

The problem is we're just around the corner from faster monitors of both. 4K maxes out at 60Hz currently, which is a waste IMO. Why limit yourself? That said, many AAA titles will struggle to get those kind of FPS rates anyway, but still, to spend over £1K on GPU's and then hogtie them with a 60Hz monitor seems a bit mad to me, so if you had your heart set on 4K I would wait for faster monitors to come along. Once you experience the smoothness of 100Hz+, 60hz really does feel a bit ancient.

In the meantime, I would go with 21:9 without doubt. Same situation applies though, in that faster monitors will be along later this year, breaking the current 100hz barrier that the X34/PG348Q manage, but overall 21:9 provides a MUCH smoother and more immersive experience, easier to drive, and even with a single 1080 you'll be fine, especially with the inclusion of G-Sync (which is ESSENTIAL).

This would be my recommendation, and you won't regret it. 21:9 is the future in my view, 16:9 just doesn't cut it any more once you experience that wider aspect ratio for any length of time. If you get a single 1080 and 21:9 monitor now, see how you get on and when faster 4K monitors arrive the 1080Ti will likely be out and you can consider switching up then. But here and now, 1080 + 21:9 100Hz all day long. :)

Ok thanks for that

Are there solid dates for monitors being released? I'm keen on a x34a but would be disappointed if something at that Res with higher refresh came along within a year.

4k @ 60hz doesn't interest me.

Definately get one with gsync and the higher refresh. So basically X34/A or Asus pg348q

Running my Asus with a pair of 1080s and experience is epic. Witcher 3 maxed running at near 100hz, lovely stuff.

Both the x34A and pg348Q are fairly similar so take whichever picks your fancy in terms of asthetics I say.

No solid dates, but apparently there were some on display at Computex but info is thin on the ground. Initial rumours were towards the end of the year, so even if that drifts I'd say early 2017. Impossible to know if what comes along will actually be any good or not though, and also at what price. Given the high cost of the X34/A and PG348Q, they certainly aren't going to be for the budget conscious!

thanks for all the help guys think im gonna get the X34A
