ASUS Strix GTX 1080 Aura OC Review

everyone is surprised that a fancy custom pcb card is no better than a reference design?

we already knew this, Nvidia already maxed it out to show its faster than previous gen

why do you think there's 21 custom cards available to preorder so early in the release?

its to get people to place orders before everyone finds out a £500 1080 will do exactly the same as a £700 1080

since when has the classified been available so early to preorder lol never

From the kitguru review - I can only hope this is true across all the boards and not just the preview ones:
yea saw the review and read another review and they both say coil whine is pretty much null/inaudible. Gonna be soo good to play a game and not hear whining in the background.

that is said about every card other than the stock piece of dog **** coolers.

Stock coolers are pretty good actually. Low noise, and exhaust all the heat outside of your case. Perfect for small form factor cases.

More and more people can't be bothered to have a huge full tower PC case anymore - as there's very little advantage for the average gamer.

I'm sorry, but noise certainly isn't a point in favour of blower-style coolers. Even discounting their lack of ability to completely stop their fans at idle, a single, small fan has to work harder and spin faster than two or three larger ones to dissipate the same amount of heat, creating more noise. Especially when you need to set a more aggressive fan curve to prevent thermal throttling like you need to do with the reference 1080.

Literally the only point I'd put in their favour would be their use in multi-GPU setups. Even in a properly-ventilated ITX case an open-style card should offer better temperatures and lower noise in a single card scenario.

Im sure nv pulled a fury x with those 1080s... They just are almost at peak and max u can add is 100mhz flim following this topic and from 5 different custom pcb cards not a single pulled off stable 2.1 constant no matter the temperatures ect
