Love my Nexus 6P but if HTC start making Nexus devices, it'll be my first and last one.

A tin can with some string is more reliable than anything HTC have a bash at manufacturing.

I've had a few HTCs and they have all been pretty reliable, other than an ancient Windows Mobile one I had many years ago. Maybe you were just unlucky?

to be fair i do find it to be too big too and will most likely go small next time. when in hand it's perfectly fine size, it's just when in my pocket. it's forever slipping out and often has a little tip pocking out when all the way in my pocket. now it's shorts weather i'm realising just how easy it is for the phone to drop out as short pockets are smaller than jeans. i go to movies, phone slips out. i go biking, phone falls out. i sit on the couch, phone falls out.

i've got a case which helps but i find the phone looks ugly with a case on and makes it then too bulky

Sounds like you need to be more careful with your phone, not dropped mine once yet and no issues with pockets even with smaller phones i never sat down while they were in the pocket.
 
Gotta say my n6 is naked and has had at least 6 drops lately one from 4 ft onto concrete. A few chips and scuffs but screens are fine
