So my wife has finally succumbed that her S3 is no longer up to par (it is slow and generally not working that well, the charging port is starting to fail too).

She's after an android phone, not windows or apple.

Ideally but not a deal breaker any more is to have a replacement battery so that she can keep a spare one charged. She currently has that with her S3.

She mainly uses it as a camera, but surfs social media and obviously email too.

Not sure whether she will buy outright or get a contract at the moment, but all suggestions welcome. I was thinking of the LG G3 - but not sure if that's a little "old" now? Or is it still holding it's own?

Other than replacement battery if that cannot be done then a long battery life would be good.

Thanks all :)

The latest phone with a replaceable battery is the G5.

The G3 is still a decent phone but it most likely won't receive any more updates.

Has she thought about carrying maybe an external battery pack with her? Anker does some pretty compact ones.

I'd say the G3 is a bit too long in the tooth. The G4 will be substantially better than the G3. Especially in performance and a bump in camera quality.

Ok so the G4 with a battery pack would be a sensible option? I guess the downside is you have to charge it rather than just replace the battery but that's a good compromise I think. Besides, being a woman she carries a bag full of crap anyway! :p

Happy for other suggestions.

I know touchwiz has got better over the years and the S3 was horrid implementation of it.

The LG G4 battery is replaceable too - you don't need an external battery pack.

So it is! I had missed that.

So is the G4 worthwhile? I've seen it in the flesh and I do like it - but this is for her not me. It'll be a step up from the S3 either way.

Personally I would say take her to a phone shop and see what she likes best, as it will be mostly down to personal preferences. LG and Samsung are good for cameras, the Nexus 6P is pretty good as well.

I think 6P may be too big for her. She struggles already with my 5x. But you're right however just wanted to get a bit of a feel and ideas. :)
