I read this a few days ago but don't remember anyone posting anything about it, so thought i would bring it up before it gets lost to the passage of time.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...ned-french-citizen-plotting-euro-2016-attacks

So a bloke got caught smuggling an insane amount of explosives, as well as bullets and guns. It is thought that he was planning to carry out very damaging attacks to protest his countries migration policies.

“The Frenchman spoke negatively about his government’s migration policies, the spread of Islam and globalisation,”Vassil Hrytsak of the SBU told a press conference in Kiev. “He also said he wanted to perpetrate acts of terror in protest.”

A search of the man’s home in the Meuse, eastern France, found “nothing in particular”, French police told AFP, apart from a T-shirt with the logo of an extreme rightwing group.

This guy obviously meant to do some serious damage, it's scary that these people exist in civilised society. It is ironic that all of this was in protest to lax immigration policy and border control but then got caught red handed at the border, albeit after he was monitored for some time.

In a busy stadium, the sort of stuff he was carrying over could have led to one of the worst terror attacks carried out in the last decade

He wasn't Muslim so no one gave a flying toss. Had he perpetrated these attacks, first thing everyone would be thinking is those damn pesky Muslim terrorists lol.

On what grounds are you saying he isn't Muslim? Appearance?

I also read about this last week, i was thinking of starting a thread about it but thought it would end up like all other terrorist related threads sadly.

The thing i first thought of was that is one terrorist caught, how many more are there? Hopefully zero but i really doubt it, all the terror related stuff has got so bad in the past year or so that has become normal to expect something is going to happen, i hope not, even the media give off an air of expectancy and i don't mean in an over hyped way.

This is how bad it has got, to expect something is going to happen, it wasn't like that 5+ years ago.

I'd be very very surprised if something doesn't happen during the Euros, homegrown or otherwise.

Those pesky one's have seemed unusually quiet for the past 3 months or so since the last major attack in the EU\West.

e: Funny how you, one of the defenders of the ROP\Islam post and send this thread down the usual path isn't it? The thread isn't or wasn't Islam related, so why did you jump in with your tripe as always.

Since this shows the violence and extremism of the 'other side' i thought it was worth posting it and risk turning into another terrorist thread.

This guy was operating for 6 months+ under their surveillance, so i doubt it was a small solo operation (what man needs that much gear?!). I would imagine that he arranged an attack with a group of nutcases linked with the extreme right group he supports.

I don't think he would have targeted a stadium? Probably Islamic places of worship? I haven't read the article linked but I remember reading about it a while ago.

No places mentioned, stadium was a worse case scenario sort of thing which is possible since they guy is not aiming to send a message to the Muslims but rather to his own government to express discontent with policies. When inflicting terror through cruelty is your main objective, you dont know what sort of thing could happen.

Stay safe France.
Don't worry, these particular attacks were never going to take place.

Guardian said:
Ukraine’s state security service (SBU) said it first noticed the man last December when he allegedly tried to “establish ties with Ukrainian troops under the guise of volunteering” and had put him under surveillance.
Guardian said:
he became more and more interested in how to buy arms and explosives

Umm these attacks were never going to actually happened were they? They put him on surveillance because he wanted to volunteer for the troops, which was before he even became interested in procuring his arsenal, therefore, according to simple logic, any chain of events (such as an actual bombing) occurring after the initiation of surveillance would either a) never actually happen due to intervention, or b) happen knowingly.

Luckily it was A. Good job Ukrainian Security Services. Bad job newspapers conjuring fear and terror as always.

Indeed good job but I can't imagine it happens like that all the time. I can't find any links but I'm sure the last Paris attack perpetrators were supposed to have been under surveillance as well.

Glad they caught the sod whoever for whatever reason decides to try something like this deserves everything they get.

Was wondering how he thought he'd get that amount over a border or 2 back to France - was enough ordinance to supply a squad for an entire mission.
