Buy 1070 now or wait a month?

Hello,

I was told that buying a 1070 now wouldn't be too sensible - this is because in a month or so there's going to be custom PCBs which will be far better for the same price. I personally want to use my summer for gaming, so waiting another 5 weeks isn't really the best thing to do as I want it through the entire summer.

Although, this is what he said and I was wondering if anyone can confirm this to be something to go with or to just buy the card now:

"Custom PCBs will turn up soon and have better power delivery, dual/triple bios' and more. A better VRM (voltage regulator module or "power delivery") can mean more stability and less coil whine."

I'm currently looking at this card:

Thanks,
Oli

Better power delivery, BIOS etc, yes. Whether that will give any significant gains in overclocking potential with the Pascal cards remains to be seen.

Personally I would only wait if you don't like the prices and want them to come down.

Also bare in mind that person is wrong - the cards with the custom boards will be more expensive. Not the same price.

How much more you think they'll be - and how much cheaper will the current cards be do you think? I think a month of gameplay with a 1070 is worth at least £30 of my money.

Custom cards for the 1080 just seem to offer better cooling and a bit quieter. Dont seem to clock much better, if at all, than the reference cards.

I'm looking at buying one soon, but to be fair i'm not sure there is too much difference between the reference design (Founder's Edition now) and the custom cards.

Common complaints with older reference cards was cooling capability (feel free to correct me if i'm wrong or add to this!) and with the lower TDP on the new chipset I don't imagine this will be an issue!

so what's your point? We shouldn't buy now or what?

Oh dear, done an AMD :/

I remember people waiting months for their FuryXs after pre-ordering, the dates just kept getting pushed back all the time.
