Hi,

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are here, there isn't an awful lot of information out there yet given the 1070 was only officially released yesterday.

My current setup has SLI 980ti's, but i can sell both of those for around £400 each, meaning the upgrade to GTX1070 is going to be free/minimal cost.

I think if i went to a single 1080, i'm likely to lose a bit of performance but have about £200~ back in the bank or i can upgrade to 2 x 1070's and gain a bit of performance (maybe a lot if this new SLI tech is all it's copped up to be!)

So my thoughts are to go with the 2 x 1070's.....if you were in this position what would you do, and why?

My main concern with this is my current cards (2x980ti) are just going to depreciate further in value and currently the 1070 SLI would be a free upgrade.

Also, with regards to the 1080ti whats the likelihood that:

1. this will be released EOY or early next year?
2. performance will be better than SLI 980ti?

Obviously any answers here will be pure speculation but interested to know how you think that will compare.

Thanks :)

Watch this video for 1070 sli from gamernexus.

Agree.
The going rate for Ti's was around £380 before the 1070 launch and have no idea how old your cards are but only a daft sod would pay anywhere near £380 for a second hand one or even a new one at £499, although there are plenty of those people around I'm sure.

You have plenty of power for current games, wait it out.Sure, you'll lose more money but will also make a bigger jump in performance when you do upgrade.

Makes me laugh how people overvalue what they own but if they were a buyer would probably never pay the asking price for the it, we probably all do it at times.

Do you think someone will buy your 980tis for the same price of a 1070 ? Doubt it with them being better in every way.

You will be looking at roughly £600 for your sli 980ti, uses cards are around the £300 mark I've seen and to get sli 1070 you be looking are the weaker versions surely to come in budget?

I gotta laugh how everyone is waiting around for a product that doesnt even exist yet (1080Ti), and might not untill next year! :p

In fact, everyone waits around so much on this forum I am surprised anyone buys anything, ever!! :) :p

If I was in your position I would sell both your cards for around £650 and get a single 1080. In general SLI and Crossfire are a disappointment in terms of support and issues and a single card will support whatever games you throw at it. The cheapest 1080s start at £524 on OC so that would leave you £136 to spend on other upgrades :)

Carpe diem, if you want it buy it, whats the point in waiting for something we don't even have a release on yet. When the Ti does come sell the 1070/1080's and buy a Ti, then you've had best of both instead of waiting on old tech for another 10 months.

I am also going from dual 980ti's to a single 1080
SLI support has been a bit hit and miss and nothing supports VR SLI at the moment, so single fastest card is where I am at

I will also then sell the 1080 to get a 1080ti when it comes out

SLI sucks in my opinion (that's my experience with 970 sli). I'm fussy though, especially when I pay £600 for gpu(s). Expect to get return on investment 99% of time . Ain't gonna happen with SLI. Microstutter, heat, noise, driver issues just to name a few issues.

With nvidia pricing you may be able to recoup 80%+ costs of 1080 and get 1080ti. Although, judging on nvidia's pricing 1080ti will be around £1k which is "silly" money.

If you can sell the 980Ti's for a good price and make no loss then may aswell go 1070's. Sounds like your already finding the shiny hard to resist like most of us :p If its costing you in the process then stick with what you have and wait it out I say.

Though you are right in terms of 980Ti vs GTX 1080. A pair of 980Ti's will where SLI is supported half decent trash a single 1080.
