Netflix price rise.

On the 4K thing, does anyone have a view on what download speeds you need to have to get this working? I get between 16mbps and 18mbps to my desktop but I am not sure if that provides enough bandwidth to deliver 4K without significant buffering?

Jesus, i said £16 as that's the usual price for someone going to watch Imax without being on unlimited etc at my local i.e Sheffield.

Netflix recommend a minimum of 25mbps for 4k streaming.

just got my email:(, seen as I dont use the service that much I think I will cancel and maybe try Amazon prime instead which I think is £5.99?

Just need to finish of season 1 of Narcos and then I will get another sub of netflix for a short time to binge watch season 2 and anything else later in the year.

all the people saying it's great value for money.

what do you watch on it? i had it for free for 6 months and tbh after 1 month i had seen everything i wanted to and the next 5 months it was barely touched. it's probably worth subbing for 1 month a year where you will be available to easily fit in the content worth seeing.

95% of the content is years old and i've seen it by the time it launches on netflix.

if your comparing cinema to netflix that's like comparing a projector in a dedicated home cinema room with atmos to watching it on a tablet 5 years later. it's not a direct comparison.

i have prime and tbh it's the same 95% of the content is years old and there is a few things here and there which are worth watching but it's full of a lot of terrible and old content, it's great for kids though.

what makes these subs worse is exclusivity, netflix has exclusivity of orange in the new black for instance so if you like that then you need to sub to it. prime has exclusivity of clarksons new motoring show so if you like that you need to sub to it.

if everything was available in 1 place for say £10-£20 a month (everything available on sky atlantic, sky movies, fox, netflix, prime, etc) and all in HD/4K then I imagine everyone would be jumping at the bit. But the current structure of if you like show x then you need service y means your paying up to £80 (sky HD subs with movies and atlantic, etc aren't cheap, then you need netflix and prime too) on top of your broadband bill which is just too much for the very little amounts of decent new content.

Freesat/Freeview + 200 MB Broadband + Prime (comes in handy because amazon is slowly taking over the world) = enough for me

£36.66 a month for the above

I then borrow blu rays off a mate who buys 2-3 every week guaranteed.

I used the Cinema comparison due to money for time being entertained. £9.99 on 4k package for the month with hours of content there if you can be bothered as apposed to paying more for 2 hours at the cinema.

Yes there's some months where Netflix is alittle slow regarding new releases but I've gone through their own programs, the bbc back catalog and whatever films and anime shows they put on there, I definitely get my monies worth.

if everyone used that as a basis for comparison nobody would go to vegas, marbella, dubai, etc. as there are cheaper options which offer more for less.

your paying for the experience more than hours of entertainment.

nobody would fly with anything other than easyjet and ryanair either, as they do the same job get you from A to B.

I personally think cinema is overpriced but the right movie at an IMAX cinema blows away the experience you would get for far cheaper at home.

Then you have people who build a dedicated home cinema for like £20,000 when that same 20 grand would get them a lifetime pass to the IMAX for them with enough change to buy a decent car.

People all perceive the experience and value for money differently. You may use netflix a lot. I struggled to find anything worth watching after the initial month. A lot of people complaining that since they stopped access to the US version from here it isn't worth it anymore too as that had a lot more and better content and newer content.

People have a lot more options these days, I know someone who has just cancelled sky for netflix, whereas if I had to choose between them I'd rather have sky. Therefore to you netflix may be good value for money for others it may not.

I just got the email that they're increasing prices and canceled. Now that access to the american version has become a pain I don't thinks its worth being constantly subscribed. When they have 3 or more series I'm interested in I'll subscribe for a month or 2 and then cancel again until they get more.
