Is GTX 980Ti better choice compared to GTX 1070?

Sold of "cheap" I doubt that haha.

Well comparatively. 780Tis were sold off for £300 shortly after the 970/980 launch. Although with the low stock and high price of the 1070 at the moment, it will likely be higher this time around or take longer for it to come around.

Pretty much all old generation stock is sold off nice and cheap on here once the new cards are out...and boy do they have a lot of stock :D https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-components/graphics-cards/nvidia/geforce-gtx-980-ti

Edit - Woah already dropped to £399 and low £400's for a lot of them !

If we are talking equal price then the 1070 is the way to go, however for £310 delivered I picked up a 6 month old Palit 980Ti Super Jetstream which boosts happily to ~1500mhz while remaining very quiet in the process. At this price the 980Ti is a no brainer IMO.

I'm still rocking 280X so cannot compare directly but basically is custom cooled 980Ti better choice than founders edition GTX 1070 in terms of performance?

Would likes for 980Ti Strix be actually faster than a reference 1070?

What do you guys think?

Get a 1070 but just wait a bit for 1070 prices to stabilise and come down a bit to near MSRP would be my advice. Early adopter end up paying massive premiums to be an early adopter and in terms of value it's not worth it.

Thing is with todays price cuts on 980ti which means a 980ti is cheaper than a 1070 it makes the decision trickier.

Wait another two weeks or so until the RX480 is released!

I'm sort of thinking 980Ti if I can get my hands on one for ~£300, was hoping to get custom cooled 1070 for ~£329 but that looks very unlikely at the moment. Bit odd that pretty much all custom cooled 1070's are more than the founders editions? I thought that meant to be the other way around ;)

With brand new 980ti being 399 currently on ocuk I feel 300 for a used one is a bit much imo.

Depending of course on age and warranty.

Unless AMD pull a unicorn out their butt its not going to match a 1070 or a 980Ti. :p

Well considering, the OP has an R9 280X,even at Fury level it is a big upgrade. Remember for that 25% more, the OP will paying another £130+ for a GTX1070.

Plus,if the RX480 overclocks better(as a percentage) it will close the gap.

On top of this I am not sure why a two weeks wait is such a big deal - its not like the GTX1070 is freely available in stock now?? They are rarer than Unicorn butts. This is why we are not finding any £320 cards now - it might take weeks(or longer) for stock to actually stabilise.

:p

Also, interesting how the current price drops have coincided with the AMD reveal at the gaming event today.

The 970 has been ahead in most things for a while now, a good 6+ months easily.

Yes fair enough I may be slightly out of date but my point still stands in that at launch the 970 couldn't even match a 780ti and yet the 1070 is 10-15fps more than a 980ti at launch in some of those tests.

To be fair. stock for stock is a bit irrelevant on "overclockers UK forum" is it not? I assume OP will be overclocking the card. In which case the 980Ti wil likely best the 1070.

You'd think, but it's surprising how many enthusiasts on here only overclock for playing around with benchmarks and then run it at stock clocks for actual gaming.
