Afternoon all.

I managed to snag a low usage Kuro Lx5090 at a great price complete with stand, remote and original sound bar. I'm going to view it tonight prior to taking it home with me and I wanted a few pointers around what to look for beyond the usual (screen burn and obvious damage). Anyone have any tips?

Hugely paranoid about driving back for an hour without damaging it too so any advice in that regard would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

As above. Also check the remote control switches between the inputs smoothly. If it has not been calibrated, then I would suggest getting it calibrated. Love the kuro best TV imo ever made. I still have mine and only use it for home theatre. Enjoy

Why did I read about the red tint?! 'm gripped by paranoia now.

Seems common so I'll take a close look and report my findings.

Thanks.

there is a voltage mod you can do to get rid of it.

how much you spending on it is the main thing here. if less than £250 then it's worth the risk. otherwise i wouldn't bother.

Got it for £300 with the original stand and speaker.

Managed to get it home safely last night and so far it seems flawless. All except for the slight power supply buzz but I'll get accustomed over time ust drown it put.

Reading a few review sites and calibration guides, they all seem to leave their brightness at 0 on the movie preset. I've found that blacks are totally washed out until I get around -5. Very impressed with the pq for games thus far on the game preset.

What sort of settings have you guys used for movies? Particularly around brightness.

games? although it's well burnt in by now i wouldn't risk image retention.

£300 is good depending on how long it lasts. that's the risk you take with such an old tv. £300 plus say an additional £35 a year in electricity over a modern tv. if it lasts >2 years then your laughing. if it breaks in 6 months then not so good. hope you got a good one.
