Help me spend £600 on a TV

I'm looking to purchase a new TV, it has to be 48/49", it has to be 4K and it has to have the best picture quality for the money. I would rather compromise on other areas before picture quality.

I did buy a 55" Panasonic, but the picture quality was a bit crap so I took it back and got a refund... So preferably a different brand this time.

Budget is circa £600, can stretch a bit but would rather not spend much more on a TV...

What is the best TV within my budget, any suggestions? I'm happy to buy both in store or online.

I'd stay away from Sony Android tellies, unless you can be certain that all the Android bugs have been fixed via updates.
 
Their premium LCDs are ok, but anything that retailed for less then a grand or so on release is going to be hit or miss. They claim to have fixed android, but android was always pants to begin with and has no business being on a tv.
 
In terms of picture quality alone, how does the Sony compare to the Samsung? Picture quality is basically my main priority, and would be willing to spend more on the Sony if it was better in that department.
 
TVs are a personal choice. Spend a morning/afternoon in town having a look at a few on display. A lot of 4k tvs are setup poorly as they have sharpness set at 100, and generally the colours are over saturated too.

If you have a richer sounds and john lewis near you that should be your first port of call. They tend to employ a better standard of monkey then say Currys.
 
Are you a very customer, if not, a new customer who opens an account can get 20% off their first order (conditions apply) which would bring the Panasonic TX-50DX700B @ £799 down to £640, an absolute bargain at that price, worth a look, I did and am loving this tv for that price. I am aware you had a bad Panasonic but you shouldn't let that put you off, a lot of these tvs need tweaking to get the best picture, I found a youtube video by DARKO which I followed and what a difference it made.

In the market for a new telly myself and the Panasonic looks very nice. However, the Mrs thinks 50" is too big and won't budge on me getting anything much bigger that the 42" we currently have. Looks like I might have to take her to see it in the flesh, I've also got some brownie points stored away so I'll have to dig them out and cash them in :)
 
If very does not have 5year guarantee you can find the 50dx 40dx at 650/530 with 1year at panasonic outlet
TV i had last year was like new and watching italy now.

I've got a fairly new Sony 50" KDL755 LCD which seems to run Android rather well. I didn't buy it for smart functionality at all, but the OS is pretty smooth and simple to navigate. Prime Video works especially well. I definitely wouldn't suggest staying away specifically for that reason.

Given that older tvs have large bezels, the increase in size isn't that noticeable...

Luckily mine doesn't complain about such things as she enjoys tv/films just as much as I do. She was the one that bought our latest projector. :)

Using the very offer brings it down to about 650. Presume this is going to be the best to in this price bracket with that level of discount?
 
Maybe I misread Very web-site but at least for a 50dx they want £150 for a 4 year guarantee, so the prices of the guarantees offset the saving versus JL ?
[personally I am happy with 1 year, but most folks on here seem to want them]

I bought this around a month ago from currys, £650.

Very impressed by it, no issues with the android os, seems any initial problems are solved by the updates.

although i watch tv through my youview box, only really use the os for emby, netflix and play music streaming

also nice that you can fully customise the home screen to remove the recommendations and apps that you dont use

This is 'very' true (lol couldn't help myself) I am ok with 1yr, however there is also some protection from the law as it is perfectly reasonable to expect a quality brand tv to last at least 4-5yrs and you would have some recourse with Panasonic, right now they are giving free 5yr guarantees with certain tvs bought from certain retailers, sadly not very.co.uk.
