Cliff Richard - Sexual Abuse Claims

I have to wonder what took so long? Between posts a few up, there's a 15 month gap.

While I have no opinion on whether he did or didn't do anything, having not seen much if any allegation or evidence, it's a long time for anyone to have this hanging over their head.

If it does get tossed out by the CPS, it going to look very much like a celeb witch-hunt.

Poor bloke.

A Devil Woman, a Living Doll will end his Bachelor Boy days. Some People may just ruin his Summer Holiday.

Congratulations.

I don't think it is uncommon for the police to do this, look at the 4 agricultural college students accused of rape, they had that hanging over them for a year or so before they were charged... and another year before the case was thrown out by the judge... meanwhile they'd been kicked out of university and racked up 200k in legal fees

is the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial.

There is no fair trial or innocence, you are deemed guilty as soon as the media gets hold of it or shall I say the police release the info to the media.

Disgusting behaviour

My views on matters like this changed greatly after a mate of mine was wrongly convicted. Reading the court transcripts, the judge gave him no chance of a defence. A husband and wife on the jury, witnesses committing perjury and a police witch hunt of silly measures. If the Judge won't allow you to present a defence, what chance have you got? None.

It's coming up for appeal and there are an incredible 200+ appeal points with over 50 of them being able to clear him.

Regardless, his life is ruined. The whole, "someone said it, so it must be true" is a recent culture shift that needs to end. Can happen to literally anyone.

Justice should never be formed on public opinion.

Haven't we got a member on here who had his life totally ruined by an accusation?
A woman approached him while he was walking down the street and then accused him of rape or something.
He lost his family, home & job while he waited for a trial and the Judge said he was totally innocent but still it stuck.

All charges dropped due to insufficient evidence. Never arrested, never charged but he's forever going to be linked with the claim of 4 allegations of sexual assault passed to CPS and up to 9 accusers in total.

Time for some protection on identities of the accused for this type of thing I think. The BBC raid thing was disgraceful, before he'd even been so much as interviewed.

It's really not turning out to be a good year for South Yorkshire Police.

I hate Cliff Richard with a passion but I totally agree with you.
Hopefully all his 80 year old women fans won't take any notice.

Shouldn't he be suing the accusers?
The Police can only investigate what they've been told.

The police investigating the allegations is doing their job. The police and BBC dropping in on his house while he wasn't at home, broadcast live on the news, is another matter.

How many more nails are needed to fully shut the coffin that contains the leadership of this police force. I would say shocking, but imagine that by now there are few that are surprised.

There being 'insufficient evidence' doesn't necessarily mean he didn't do it.

To sue anyone, he would have to be confident that the evidence was not just insufficient to expect a conviction on the basis of 'beyond reasonable doubt' (the requirement for criminal guilt), but also be insufficient under 'the balance of probabilities' (the requirement for civil action).
