Infringing Braking Distance

I find it very irritating, particularly the people that crawl past me a little faster, move over and then slow down to less than the speed I was doing.

I normally wait until I can see the front of the car I'm overtaking in my rear view mirror / through rear windscreen before moving back in.

I do get the odd tailgater undertaking me before I have chance to move over though.

However, cruise control is not a good idea when it's raining. I've felt my car slip several times when using it in the rain. A clean pair of pants is usually required afterwards.

What? Never had that. Or did you set cruise @ 140mph on the autobhan?

See this all the time, especially going up the M6. If it's not jumping out infront of you, it's driving in the middle lane when the inside is completely clear.

I've always thought of a device someone should invent to build into cars. It uses a laser to measure the distance between you and the car infront. It then assesses your speed including road surface condition to work out your breaking distance. If your breaking distance is greater than your distance to the car infront, then some kind of beep/warn to tell the driver to increase the gap.

"I've indicated, therefore I am changing lane"

You should indicate when you are intending to go somewhere, including changing lanes. People who do not indicate often cause accidents and hold-ups.

However I think I know what you are alluding to, those that indicate and change anyway even when it is not safe. It happened to me with a lorry before, was lucky not to crash.

I think that's what he is suggesting. People seem to think because they have indicated they have the right to pull in even when it isn't safe to do so.

Not if they hit something :P

Well you should really be able to see the brick wall coming out of nowhere.

As long as there is enough thinking distance in between cars I don't really mind.

The idea that anyone leaves full braking distance when all lanes are full on a carriageway is unrealistic. Simply doesn't happen.
