Can I buy a car now and choose to take delivery in Sept?

I am looking to buy a new car at a very good price and have been looking for the right one to come up in spec. One has been found which is due to come out of the factory and ready for the end of July. Would it be unreasonable to get them to hold it until 1st Sept and register it under the new 66 plate?

I am thinking it would be better for resale in the future

Nah just get it now you might aswell enjoy it and why would a slightly newer registration change the price? If that bothers you buy a personalized plate.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the difference in plate on a car from the same year runs to around £300.
Also depends what you're buying - last time I bought a new car (Octavia vRS, 2011) there was a 5 month wait from order to delivery, so it arrived a week after the 11 plate was released.

Most people who care about plate will be buying a new or nearly new car for the rest miles done will have a much bigger impact than the plate.

For two otherwise identical cars a 66 plate will be worth more than a 16 plate.
Of all the things that differentiate two seemingly identical cars a couple of months between registration has to be the least important.

If resale is a concern you'll be better set choosing a popular colour option or spec, or even not buying a new car at all. unless you plan on selling within a year or even two it will make little to no difference. In the real world thats not how the 2nd hand car market functions.

The month doesn't make any difference - unless the month difference spans a change in plate.

A 66 plate car is newer than a 16 plate and is valued as such.

Go value a 14 plate Focus and a 64 plate Focus and you'll see for yourself.

There's nothing to stop you buying it unregistered, is there?

You could just buy it, trailer it to your garage, park it up and register it in Sept.
Unless the dealer has a legal obligation to register it, of course..

Perhaps the dealer will even hold it for you. Have you asked them?

^Presume you'd then have to stump up the first registration fee.

We've done similar in the past but the timeframe was much shorter, delayed about 10? days to ensure a 1st March registration.

One thing to bear in mind is your current vehicle if you are disposing of one at the same time as acquiring the new vehicle will depreciate slightly during that time i.e. a car traded in on 1st September will be worth less than the same car traded in during July.

Yeah I had a look at this and the difference would be significant like you suggested, thanks :)

I asked the dealer yesterday and all I got was "We won't do that" it seems that they say no to get the sale in the book sooner

No I sold my car privately as part ex would have had my trousers and pants down. Got a good return privately, so now I have a car that I am borrowing.

I will ask them again tomorrow about it. Thanks for the responses guys :D
