ordered myself a 16gb g4 last night.
what are your thoughts on the newest edition to the family.

the specs looks amazing for the money and the reviews are decent.

i had a moto g 3rd gen which I got for about 80£ solid phone. give it to my mum as the moto e was constantly low on storage. I went for the 2gb ram and 16gb g4 as I have micro sds I can use for actual storage.

Specs are good but unless anything has changed recently, it will still suffer from relatively poor software (e.g. seems slower than it should be), and delayed updates (if they happen at all)

And then there's the OP3 so it has stiff competition. Moto X style drops to £280 now and then.

SD617 is fine for under £160 but no thanks for anything over.

g4+ starts at 229 then whatever extra it is for the bigger storage etc. I didn't pay the extra to get the 4+ as reading reviews theyre exactly the same apart from camera which is slightly better but reviews show not much difference. and a fingerprint scanner which looks ugly where it is. I usually don't use any form of lock on my phone.

the Motorola's run stock android and the updates are relatively fast. my moto g3 got android 6 far before my z5 compact and other stuff.

I still have a 2nd Gen 4G Moto G - it came with a build of lollipop that was terrible, took ages before any minor bug fix builds were released. Then took ages to get a version of 6 released, which I still haven't applied as there are too many complaints of switched audio channels and GPS stopping working.

Imho the original Moto G was quite revolutionary due to it's price/performance - and maybe the 4th gen puts that right to some degree, but everything in between has just been a bit poor (perhaps not helped due to the background changes in ownership of Motorola)

yeah I got a bad release of 5 on my first gen and slowed it down. the 3 was good and the 4 will be good do to the bigger screen which is a plus for work and watching media on .

its like half the price of my iphone 6 so may keep the extra money when sell and get a moto 360
 
I bought a 64 GB version of the G4+ for my girlfriend. The 64 GB version comes with 4 GB RAM, so plenty of capacity for all the resource hogging social networking and messaging apps she runs to operate in the background.

So far, after 6 days of her (and me) having it, we are both very impressed. General performance of the phone seems to be excellent, no lag or detectable slow down, and the added bonus of having Motorola's near-stock Android Experience.

I have been impressed by the performance of the camera, both in terms of colour reproduction and performance in differing lighting conditions. The Laser AutoFocus is very quick indeed. Amazing for a £250 device.

Battery life also seems good - probably on account of the Snap Dragon 617.

good to hear. the g4 and the g4+ only difference is slightly better camera and finger print scanner. mine should be here on Tuesday. found an old class 10 micro sd with my stuff on it so internal memory for me will just be apps

This is possibly the opposite of what to expect...

I've had the cheap G 4 for a week or so now, generally pretty happy with it. Nothing AMAZING, but not really any weak points either.

thanks for vid, nice quality from the g4, finchley looking clean and tidy at least :D

Too many decisions on new phones, I hear the led activity is gone on these newer edition moto gs, I love the blink feature on my old moto g 1st still but guess tech and software change and you get use to it.
 
thanks interesting phone, its a bit too big for my liking also either that or I just love the size (5") of my moto g original, fits perfect in the pocket also !
