Facebook will start tracking you to link offline and online shopping -
The updates to 'Local Awareness' adverts will give retailers anonymised data about who is visiting their shops

Given the battery drain caused by the Facebook app it's not surprising they're constantly logging your location.

Makes me feel kinda uncomfortable when it's put in such blunt terms though......

I guess this is why they are trying to make it difficult to use the web version of facebook on a mobile device heh.

that depends on how it works, as most phones track your location anyway, so you don't have to wait for ages for maps and other apps to work out where you are when they are launched.

its also totally anonymise data

The additions to Facebook's Local Awareness system will also show users adverts for nearby shops and provide in-advert directions to find them. Facebook described the approach as a "native shop locator" that helps bridge the gap between mobile and physical shopping.

and I don't actually mind personalised adverts, facebook is the first webpage ever I have actually followed several adverts and purchased something. They finally seem to be recommending stuff I'm interested in and didn't know existed.
can never understand why people visit shops so much, be pointless using this feature on me.

anyway I would like to see a more technical article before pressing the panic button and I think FB is missing a trick. should have a premium account which disables all tracking, rights to pictures etc. bet a fair percentage would pay.

Got rid of Facebook app a while ago when it started suggesting friends based on WhatsApp contacts etc. I know they own both but that level of intrusion is too much for me

FB has gone too far IMO in its privacy intrusion

Haven't used the Facebook app on my phone for a few years, using it even less now that they've shafted the mobile site, to not work for messaging.
Just trying to stick with other messaging tools these days, and the main site is tiring to look at.
Social (justice) network, with a load of inaccurate **** being shared.

I preferred a few years back, when people had some humour in them.
