People are threatened and attacked in an Istanbul record shop while customers listen to Radiohead.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-36567863

"Rock band Radiohead have condemned an attack on people listening to their new album at a record store in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Some 20 suspected Islamists beat up customers and staff for drinking alcohol and listening to music during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan."

Vile people, how dare they enjoy themselves

Does this happen often?

Shock, and horror, as followers of backwards religion, act irrationally.

Those commas. :(

No it doesn't happen often but due to the increased instability caused by the authoritarian conservative president and weak economy, it has the potential to become more common.

Saw something in the news recently about a muslim school in Birmingham distributing leaflets to its students about various things, one of which being that music and dancing were "acts of the devil". These were discovered by an unannounced ofsted visit.

If anyone wants it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-36548882

I enjoyed that one as their defence on the matter was 'ofsted are racist'. Bravo guys, brilliant counter.

Believing that music is haram isn't really an extreme Islamic belief.

You could possibly understand it if it was the Red Hot Chilli Peppers ;)

Although the thread title is possibly misleading as they were also drinking during Ramadan.

Having said that a lot of more extreme followers of religion seem to have an issue with music in general, or the "wrong kind" of music, ranging from the Ultra Orthodox jews, to some Christian sects.

I don't mind, include the drinking in the title, still doesn't deserve a few smacks though :)
