Citroen Cactus - Anyone here got one?

The side panels serve a purpose as well, no more worrying about idiots banging your doors as they take the brunt.

Yeah, no need to worry about someone ruining the appearance of your car by hitting it with their door, Citroën have pre ruined the looks for you :p

@Evilpaul and Muffin'- What are your general thoughts on day to day ownership? What engines do you have, dag-dag or petrol? How is the fuel consumption?

Evilpaul - what shade of red is that? Just the 'normal' solid red or is it the 'Jelly red' colour?

The more I look at the Cactus the more I like it. It's certainly a 'Marmite' car, its so ugly it looks awesome (IMO ;) ).

Mine is the Sport Red, petrol 110 manual.

In terms of daily driving then I have very few problems with it; the suspension set up is soft which means it soaks up potholes and uneven surfaces comfortably, but thankfully it doesn't have too much body roll in the corners.
It can be a little noisy on the motorway, but this seems to be down to road noise rather than engine or wind noise. On old motorway road surfaces it is noticeably noisy but going over fresh tarmac it becomes remarkably quiet, this is probably down to the eco tyres.
In terms of engine sound then being a triple it is a bit rumbly under acceleration, but cruising at a steady speed it really quietens down.

My daily commute is 15miles each way with a roughly equal split of motorway and country A and B roads. This has given me an overall mpg of 48.6:

With the temperature rising in the last few months and the engine being run-in then my current mpg from a tank has crept into the 50's.

Thanks for the write up, Evilpaul. From what I've read the 110bhp engine seems to be the one to go for.

Going to visit the local stealers and have a test drive and get some info. Citroen's trim levels always confuse me, I think the Flair level seems to be pretty well specced. Do you have satnav on yours?

Also going to look at Fiat 500X's and the Nissan Juke. Just trying to find the best PCH deals online at the moment. Budget is £200 per month so should manage fine with that.

I quite like the look as well, but that's probably because i'm forced to drive a Picaso which is not to dissimilar.

The interior does look a bit cheap tho.

I bet idiots see the side panels as a licence to swing their doors in to it :( Still better than nothing I suppose, I get sick of finding dents on my door every time I park up

What sort of material is the stuff on the side? Is it actual shock absorption sort of stuff? I'm curious:)

First time I saw one I presumed it was protective material they take off when the car is delivered. Was rather surprised to find out it wasn't.

We get them as loaners sometimes when a vehicle goes in for a service. Always glad to get the proper vehicle back.

Yup, mine is the Flair spec with Satnav but it is confusingly different from the current Flair spec. On mine I've got the Jukebox (built in HDD for MP3 playback) and reverse sensors included in the spec. The Jukebox is no longer available on any spec and the reverse sensors are an optional extra.

Citroen were doing 24 hour test drives but I cannot see that advertised on the website anymore. It's worth asking at the dealers to try and get an extended test drive, you'll get a better feel for the car then.

Elastollan is just a brand name for TPU, which is... cheap plastic.

Brands and technical names don't change what it is, hollow plastic.

Is the cactus on the dash a standard feature?

:p

@Evilpaul and Muffin'- What are your general thoughts on day to day ownership? What engines do you have, dag-dag or petrol? How is the fuel consumption?

I've got the 82PS Petrol, it's good enough to move the car as it only weighs 945kgs and it's giving me about 42MPG atm. It's just about to hit 1k miles so it's still bedding in and I only seem to do stop-start Bristol traffic or flat out on the M4 so I'm satisfied it'd be way better in a city with normal traffic.

It's really easy to park, nice higher driving position (than my Integra) and comfortable-ish ride, the car is built to a budget so there's short cuts on fit and finish you wouldn't expect on more expensive cars. The rear suspension can get a bit flummuxed by relentless potholes but it still remains very Citreon the rest of the time. I'm dreading the day I kerb my Diamond Cut alloys

I had one for a week in Holland.

It was fine, nothing wrong with it. Some say the interior is full of nasty plastics, I say the interior is child proof. The seating position feels more like a small van than a car, the power steering is ridiculously strong to the point of simply not feeling anything at all, the 1.5 diesel was fun around town (central Amsterdam) in that it yanked the little car forward with ease until about 3k RPM at which point it just became a wheezy little diesel. The rear windows were those tilt thingies which are crap.

It was ridiculously light on fuel however. I can't remember the exact numbers but it was roughly 30 euros for a week, and this is driving it with my pants on fire.

I don't mind them, as hire cars they're fine but I wouldn't buy one.
