Yeah it's pretty easy, an impact gun makes the front sprocket 100x easier.

I have a decent hefty chain tool which will break the chain, other than that it's just a case of re-attaching the new link.

No idea but the book torque on my front nut was 100nm plus the fact it'll be thread locked plus any corrosion means it needs a good sharp shock to get it started so I'm not sure a drill especially a cordless one would manage.

Wouldn't a 20v drill and the correct socket work just as well?

Probably not - when I did mine last time in February a foot long breaker bar and heaps of pressure would not move it, the impact wrench got it moving within a few seconds. A drill is the same constant torque as a breaker bar would be, an impact wrench is like hitting the breaker bar with a hammer several times a second.

Did you buy one for that job then or borrow one?

Bought one, I had no choice as it wasn't coming off any other way, I bought the Clarke 1000w one from Machine Mart, £68 but I've used it a couple of times since, it's a handy thing to have.

Your nut may come off but mine was on the original front sprocket, so 14 years it had been on there!

I'd happily pop round with mine if your were closer, it's literally a 30 second job with it. Some are reverse thread too, watch out for that!

Do you guys wedge the rear wheel with wood when undoing the front sprocket? I just left mine in gear

The only part I was wary of was riveting the soft link, but I made sure I gave the tool a damn good tighten and its been fine,it was my first time changing them too

Left it in gear and using the impact driver shocked it off before anything else had a chance to turn anyway.

Clov!s depending on when you plan on doing it I could bring mine over to you, you're not a million miles away IIRC.

Just looking through some old paperwork for my bike and I'm in the wrong job. One of the previous owners paid £100 to have some new EBC front pads fitted, £70 of that was labour
That would be a ten minute job for me and I'm not a fully trained mechanic!

Either wedge the rear wheel, or have someone apply the brake.

An impact wrench won't need the chain to be attached either, with mine the old chain was a 520 (unkown to me) and the new chain and sprockets a 525, I'd fitted the rear sprocket, removed the chain, and went to remove the front, and no go. I've have had to remove and re-fit the old rear sprocket and chain to have that to lever against! The impact wrench removed the nut without the chain attached, just the bike in gear. I was able to rotate the engine with how much pressure I was using with a breaker bar! :D

Adding the link is easy, just be sure not to press the plate on too much, flaring the pins shouldn't push the plate on much more. Just remember to add the o-rings! If it's not tight then it's job done.

Cheers Tom, I've just had a quick look and it looks as though I can't adjust my chain anymore, it's on the slack side anyway so I need to look at it. Can I loosen the wheel nut and bring it back?

Just over 35k on my chain and sprockets with only 3 or 4 adjustments and still going strong all weathers of course.

Had a great weekend, at the moment we are in a tent size war a few of us upgraded so another dude came with us this weekend and has gone over the top haha will post pics.

Eh? You've got loooooads left on that!

Look at the pictures here, see how far back the blocks holding the axle are, you've got another couple of cm easy. Half a turn on the bolt will get rid of a cm or so of chain slack.

Same, here, look how far back the axle is vs yours, your chain is nowhere near needing replacing :)

I'm hoping you know how to adjust your chain Clov!s :D

Like Paul says you've got loads of adjustment left in that, the rear axle will go all the way back to the end of the hole if needed.

That's why I thought I could move the back wheel back, looking at pictures, the wheel is right back against the swingarm whereas mine is half way up.

You move the wheel back to adjust the chain tension...

Undo both axle bolts (one either side I believe), undo the locknut (the small nut the furthest forward), then by turning the nut resting against the axle holder outwards, that moves the wheel back, tensioning the chain. Do the same on the other side, the exact same amount (so half a turn/1 turn etc.). Do up the lock nuts, tighten axle bolts, job done.

Should be a 5 minute job if that.

I know lol, but surely the wheel should be all the way back anyway? Unless it was adjusted incorrectly the last time?

Don't do it up too tight! I've seen a chain fly off a CBR when he was doing 100mph, so lucky I was on a different lane and there was no car behind! It went up flying...

35k on one chain  you must ride silky smooth
