Greets guys,

Not been around here for a long time but have a couple of q's regarding the monitor in the subject line. I'm looking to purchase a new monitor very soon and it will be mainly for photo work and some recording (Music) with maybe the odd game here and there.

1 ) I've been doing some searches here on the forum and it appears early revisions of the UltraSharp U3415W had a lot of backlight bleed. Do any of the more 'recent' purchasers\owners of this monitor have issues with excessive backlight bleed? * I do understand some bleed is normal with curved screens.

2) I've got an MSI GTX970 4GB. Are there any known compatibility issues between this card and the monitor?

3) My research on this monitor had some users reporting that no signal was being output to the monitor over displayport 1.2. To get around this, the monitor settings had to be changed to displayport 1.1. Just wondering if anyone had experienced this? I'm not really sure if the max resolution of this screen is supported on displayport 1.1 @60hz so really need to know the answer to this one.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Got one.
Had the issue in no:2.
Changed the cable to a different one than the one shipped with monitor and it seems to have gone for 99% of the time - but very occasionally(like 1 time per day) i do get the same issue.
Have to try setting it to 1.1 from 1.2

Thanks for the reply.

Do you mean the issue in number 3? Whereby the monitor loses signal from the graphics card? Dell have a KB article up regarding this here I hope this isn't the case as I've just sent a refurb 3214Q back to where I got it from because of exactly the same issue.

What graphics card are you using? And what is your experience with the backlight bleed?

Cheers again

ahh yes issue in no 3.

I am using a R9 290(p)
I can see some signs from the 4 corners if I look for them very carefully. but as these are curved monitors it seems to be the case.
But it does not bother me.

Owner of one here.

Backlight bleed = not very noticeable but variable between monitors, but with Dell QC you have nothing to worry about - change it until you fed up lol

Compatibility issue: I only got one when the new rev is released, so none of the mentioned issues for me (yet! touching wood)

I'm wanting one of these, but I like web browsing, do development work using a browser(web development), and watch youtube. I've read that you get black borders on all what I mentioned.

Gaming wise, this seems like a beast, as I can use HDMI 2.0 to get 50/60 fps from one of the new hdmi 2.0 cards, either the 1070 or 1080... so undecided.

I will have to buy a new av receiver too that is HDMI 2.0 compatible.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm still wary of pulling the trigger on one of these but I am tempted. Can anyone give me a mini review?

:)

If you want to do 2 things at once, I'd get this. But a 970gtx is not powerful enough to run this generation of games at this resolution on high settings.

My heart is saying get one, my head is saying no, I'm sticking with my 27" 1080P Samsung Curved monitor which is brilliant and only £200.
