Afternoon all,

So, following on from my last thread, I've decided to leave the 1080p world. I've been doing a tonne of research and come to the conclusing my single 980 ti would cry at most top end games running at 3440x1440... However, I think in terms of future proofing, the monitor would be a wise choice.

But, even with sli, it sometimes struggles to get 60fps in top end games it seems.

So, if it were you, would you get a standard 1440p monitor in the next couple of months. Or wait 12-18 months and get a dual 1080 gpu setup and X34? The latter is entirely based upon guess work of my budget being that open in that time.

Thanks

12-18 months is a long time in this game, new cards and monitors will come out and the 1080 and x34 will likely be out dated by this point. However for now a X34 and a single 1080 is a lovely setup. If your budget doesn't stretch that far there's plenty of people on here with a X34 and a O/C'd Ti with no complaints.

Me included, I had both a OC'd 980TI and now a 1080 and they are great with a X34.

Most games do well with a 980ti / 1080 single gpu. i can play the division, witcher 3 with hairworks off and get good frames with ultra settings in single gpu mode because sli doesnt work atm for pascal

Interesting I have a overclocked 980Ti and x34 just wondering did you see much of a performance jump upgrading to a 1080?

The problem I find is although a 980Ti runs 3440x1440 quite well because the x34 is a 100Hz you really see the benefit of that in older games, and then when newer games struggle at around 45-60fps it feels worse than it normally would if you only owned a 60hz panel.

60hz used to feel butter smooth to me it's crazy how much of a revelation 100hz has been.
