Dear all,

We would like to give everyone the opportunity to contribute ideas to possible changes to the OcUK forum. However, first, we need to set a few ground rules:

  1. Signature rules will be staying the same.
  2. Avatars will not be animated, not customisable and remain the same size.
  3. The "blue" style is staying - this is an important part of OcUK identity.
  4. The OcUK team will have the final say no matter what the moderating team and our members decide.
  5. Post in the nature this thread is intended, to be constructive, have a bit of fun but also respectful. If you don't like things here, this is not the thread to air your frustrations (go to the Forum Content Discussion sub-forum).

If you had a magic wand, what theme would you like?
Would you like to remove the theme or keep it?
Change the ranks? If so to what?
What do you like with the forums currently?
Make it more "OcUK" related (e.g. overclocking related)?
Do away with ranks altogether and just have a rep system?
What are your ideas?

By "theme" we mean the current gangster theme.

This is a chance for you to have your say. The caveat is, there is no guarantee that your idea will be implemented, however, we do mean this genuinely, your ideas may spark other ideas and discussion which will help to form tangible suggestions. We are keen to hear your thoughts.

Please keep this friendly, this is supposed to be fun, but at the same time the team is after ideas on what we would change. Depending on the contributions we may make another thread with a vote, or we (the team) may choose our favourite. Or, of course, if nothing inspires us from the suggestions, we just keep things as they are.

------------

My personal idea is to revert moderator ranks to what they should be:

Commissarios to Administrator/Admin
Dons to Super Moderator
UBs to Moderator

Men of Honour to Outstanding Contributor

I also am keen on simplifying the rank system and potentially adding a rep style system or a "like" system.

However those are just my personal ideas / suggestions and hope you come up with your own.

A lot of people have said that, hence why I said "potentially" as I'm sure there are more issues with it, but was just thinking out loud. :) Thanks for contributing :)

It's fine as it is.
If I would change anything it would just be its ability to scale better with small and large screens. But then again, I'm typing this on my phone without issues.

What is this blue theme you speak of? Been black and grey for ages here :p

Well aren't you snazzy?! :p

Well with new software (yes... it may well happen! :o) that should be overcome. Personally I'd love a mobile theme like other forums have. :)

I'm keen to keep Man/Woman of Honour as it is.

I don't really like the idea of a rep system either.

The opportunity for a decent mobile theme (or responsive theme) would be a good one to take up.

I can't think of an alternative to the gangster theme that I like so I'm really interested to see what everyone else can come up with.

Those are my personal thoughts :)

Theme definitely needs updating as it is very dated and boring! It doesn't represent what OcUK forums are about.

The one thing I love about the OcUK forums over any other forums I visit, is it loads so quickly. So definitely agree, we don't need larger signatures or animated avatars or all that rubbish :p

Personally, I've always disliked the use of Rep systems on vBulletin forums in the past - It's often abused. I like the Men of Honour/Outstanding Contributor rank because it's usually for a good reason.

It would be nice to get the Black Theme "officially" installed on the forum, so people can swap themes on the fly - You can keep the blue as the default theme, and maybe allow people over a certain post count to use other themes (I only say this because I understand the blue is important, but if you've been here a while it's nice to change it up a bit time and again).

I like the idea of a like system / rep system - Preferably the like one... rather than rep... Or both could be good, but yeah. I'd go for the like one first.

I like everything else you've said...Shame there's no movement on the avatars, but I guess I could have a image in signature.

I think we could do worse than follow the lead of one of the most iconic techy websites.

The ability for posts to be hidden automatically if they receive a lot of thumbs down.

Finally filter out all those tedious letterbox, mustard, queen wasp posts. Glorious.

Don't worry animated avatars and sigs are firmly entrenched in our veto clause! :D

Thanks for your contribution :)

I vote leave it as it is. This forum is much nicer and easier to use than ones with newer software!

The gangster theme is what makes OcUK OcUK, it has been gangster themed since this newer board was born, and IIRC gun themed before that!

The only thing id like is for the thread status icons (the envelopes) to be fixed because they quite often don't work properly and stick on the hot thread or new posts icon even when you've already viewed the new posts, and it often happens the other way as well. Click a thread with a grey envelope, and there are new posts.

Also for 'paging' to be a functional feature. Quite often people say for example 'paging Burnsy' for a police/crime related thread, or 'paging Fox' for a thread where someone wants to buy a BMW. It would be nice if this caused them to get a notification or email pointing them to the thread.

Leave it more or less as-is.

I would like a thank / like system though, it wouldn't' have to be ranked, but sometimes I see a post I really agree with and would like to be able to able to choose thanks / like. So they see my appreciation rather than me quoting them to say thanks / agreed etc.

As long as the mobile theme can be turned off I'm happy with whatever(hate mobile sites on the whole).

Not overly keen on the likes/upvotes system for the same reason as xenon. Even if it was "outlawed" for begging you'd only get people upvoting mates posts with the occasional useful one.

Maybe it's just me but I do keep coming back here because of its simplicity. One of the last good forums in my honest opinion.

The general look and feel I'd like to remain as much as possible, just throwing the idea of new functionality, ranks/theme, and "nice-to-haves" out there.

If there is not enough compulsion for an overhaul things will just stay as they are, just with more modern software.
