The EU Referendum: Polling Day

Vote remain, lets see if we can make a united states of Earth and at the same time remove religion from this planet.

You would in theory believe that was a good thing, then you do some research on History and Politics and realise that less government and more at a local level is always better

I've got lots of people on facebook saying which way they voted, is that technically breaking the law?

People posting that the poll could be possibly infringing on some sort of legal barrier, and then the post gets removed.
You really wasn't able to make that connection? C'mon man, you're better than that.

Well I know of 30-40 imaginary people that are on route to vote stay so HA!

I have already posted I was working. In a meeting since 0900 then driving and now stuck in crash traffic so have missed it all.

It was worded " If you were to vote today what would be your choice?" - but on reflection it probably is a little too obvious that it meant "who did you vote for".

I'm not really sure the wording would have made much of a difference to be honest, you're still on dodgy ground so the most prudent action is exactly what has happened. It's frustrating, but there we are.

My feed on FB at the moment is a full on rant between about 30 people (friends/friends of friends not some random public comment section) over someone voting purely due to immigration lol - some really going for it with some really nasty stuff.

Did the poll read "what did you vote" or similar?

It's illegal for anyone to publish what people voted until 10pm, hence why OcUK will have asked for it to be removed.

The media can't even report on campaigning or EU related issues etc :)

Exactly. It didn't ask directly how you voted, but it's a grey area. I'm not sure anything would come of it but to avoid any legal issues for ocuk it's safest to just remove it (there was no option, sadly, to leave the poll but not show the result).

Nope
But if you correlated that and published it then more than likely.

Indeed, the definition is below:

(1)No person shall, in the case of an election to which this section applies, publish before the poll is closed—

(a)any statement relating to the way in which voters have voted at the election where that statement is (or might reasonably be taken to be) based on information given by voters after they have voted, or

(b)any forecast as to the result of the election which is (or might reasonably be taken to be) based on information so given.

A Telegram group for one of my hobbies has gone nuclear as well. What the hell is wrong with people!? Honestly wondering if there will be a fight next time we're all out together!

Cameron will probably extend the voting for an extra 48 hours because people can't get to the polling stations in the last hour because of the bad weather.

Thanks for clarifying OcUK's position Dave :)

I am following a well known insurance companys share price, its highly linked to the outcome, up till lunchtime it was up nearly 2%, since then it is now .5% down on start price, gives an indication of what the market thinks

Next time UK considers leaving Europe it wont be with so many caught up in a 50/50 decision and they'll be no referendum imo, it just be on the more obvious conditions at that time.
I think EU in effect leaves us tbh it will be without politics or speculation. Possibly it might be in future more of a party vote, I think that was Cameron's decision now to stop it being part of the election vote by doing this separately. That depends on EU problems passing in time not increasing

EU has some of the lowest growth in the world, the biggest reason to leave is to be more invested globally not just regionally but that idea was very unclear when the largest companies favour EU regulatory enforcement.
The fastest growth comes from the smallest business who struggle to deal with EU constraints and costs, even such as ocuk once was so I think that message was easily lost unfortunately.

Can I vote to leave you? You've got so wound up about it you've lost the use of English?

Not sure what all the fuss is, Leave has dominated every poll on here for the last 4 months...

I would have loved to see the poll here.. add a good 10% swing to remain on the OCUK number and I reckon you'll have the actual result.

The tricky bit there is the "might reasonably be taken to be" in 1a. As someone else said it's reasonable to assume that despite the careful wording of the poll (how would you vote) most votes probably match the real votes. Can understand ocuk's cautious approach.

We'll have the proper results in 12-16 hours anyway.

So would it have been so difficult for a Mod just to say that?

People complaining that they can't get back to the UK to vote because of French ATC strikes... why wouldn't you have sorted out a postal vote months ago?!

Why wouldn't you just do a postal vote anyway, regardless of where you are to avoid the need to go to the polling station/queuing/getting caught at work/etc.
