Hey guys, finished with uni so I'm looking to move back to my ATX tower (Prodigy is too noisy and I feel bad leaving an empty Cosmos case standing around doing nothing). Don't feel any need to ugprade my CPU as the main application of CPU grunt for me is photography - had a D800 then, have a D800 now so no growth in requirements there, so I'm gonna need a new mobo. Giving a lot of my old parts to my buddy for his build (120Gb ssd, gtx680, mobo, some fans, case, PSU etc.)

Stuff I'm keeping - i7 4770, Corsair h80i, 16Gb Geil memory, 2Tb SSHD, Coolermaster Cosmos (the original one), the PSU from that.

Stuff I want to buy:
GTX 1070
LG 34UM95
ATX motherboard
Fans (iirc a couple of the ones currently in the old tower are dead)
Fan controller if necessary
240Gb SSD or bigger
Thermal paste
USB 3.0 header (Cosmos doesn't have any front panel USB 3.0)

Upper limit of £1100 or so on the budget though obviously less would be good.

Help I need:
What GTX 1070 should I buy? From a brief bit of reading it seems the Founders edition blower cards are only really justifiable in super small form factor cases (which the Cosmos is not). I quite liked how quiet my old rig was so if there's a quiet solution which isn't too expensive/sacrifices too much performance that'd be ideal. Needs to be in stock/soon-to-be as I'm giving my friend the 680 fairly soon and will need a gpu in the meantime. Was originally looking at the £375 KFA2 card, can maybe stretch to more than that but there'd need to be a good reason to do so.

What motherboard should I look at? Functionally all I really need is a couple of USB3.0 ports on a socket 1150 board (since I'm gonna keep using my 4770) Don't think it's likely I'll go SLI. Leaning towards the Gigabyte Z97P £65 one, is there anything to be gained for my usage from the more expensive ones like the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 or Asus Z97 Pro Gamer?

What fans should I get? Do I need a controller? - Can't remember off the top of my head what fans I had/still work in the Cosmos right now, nor what sizes it had (I'm sure the info is available somewhere). Don't plan on overclocking anything, just want to keep it running cool and quiet.

Thanks in advance guys.

For reference this is about where I am right now regarding a basket

You should be fine to run the fans off the motherboard if you are only planning to install 3 of them. Asus has very good fan control in the bios, which is why I would recommend sticking with that one over the gigabyte z97p

That AIB 1070's should be a bit quieter, apart from the cheap blower ones. If one is in your price range then go for it. The KF2A and palit cards are underrated imho!

The asus z97-p is a good board in its price range, you don't really need any of the higher end features of the more expensive z97 boards because you wont use most of them (power phases etc, general marketing bs and "gaming" optimized components)

I imagine the rx480 could cause NVidia to re-consider their pricing, so if you aren't in a rush you could wait until the 29th to see how things play out.

Yeah i was looking into it I might do that.

The HD4600 can support 3440*1440 right? I know it can do 4k (or thereabouts) over DisplayPort/HDMI, just want to make sure there's no issue with the 21:9 format. I can live without gaming for a couple weeks it's just that I can't really live without my desktop for that period.

Just looked at the motherboard that's in your basket and it doesn't have display port so you won't be able to run that resolution at 60hz with it unfortunately.

I can stomach not having 60hz for a week or two if it means a) I can buy the monitor now while it's on sale /and/ b) get a quieter cheaper 1070.
If I buy the 1070 now it's either a founders edition now and the monitor in a couple weeks (when my mate gets me the rest of the money) which means worse card and "overpaying" by about £55, or I buy the MSI aftermarket card which is better but winds up being £75 more expensive than the other way round of buying the monitor while it's on sale and the rest of the components except the 1070, then a £375 KFA2 card when it comes into stock.

Just going back to that, I'm gonna be using the H80i cooler still which means two extra fans on the radiator, if that makes a difference as to whether I'll need a fan controller*?

The motherboard you have has:
1 x CPU Fan connector(s) (1 x 4 -pin)
2 x Chassis Fan connector(s) (2 x 4 -pin)

You can either run some splitter cables and have the fans controlled by the motherboard or get a fan controller. The choice is down to your preference really
