OcUK Theme - have your say!

I would personally rather see a string of different avatars, rather than signatures to be honest. Keep them to a default size.

I like the idea of having a selection of themes available. I dislike the blue, and use the dark theme myself, much nicer on the eyes.

A mobile friendly forum and/or Tapatalk support (or a purpose made app) would be great.

Perhaps have a section on the users profile to list PC hardware. This could make it easier when trying to answer peoples questions regarding their setup. Make it compulsory if the user wants to post a new thread in the Hardware section of the forum.

Is there any sorta forum upgrade that stops people quoting the post above that has loads of photos. I mean why. New topic, first post has loads of info say about a new game so trailer new pics and loads of text. Then we get daft people that go and quote that 1st post with all that info duplicated in the 2nd post in the topic. Then forum user say 30 does the same thing and posts loads of info and then we get dumb member 31-40 would quote it.

Just why... Argh that peeves me off so much. Especially in gfx forum when ppl quote benchmarks when not 5 posts before is the same benchmark graph.

Probably too much to ask of some sorta software fix but need a forum member fix in behavior. But unlikely to happen.

I mean if you quote a post with loads of info and pictures etc could be compressed and wrapped in something like spoiler tags so you click on spoiler and it shows. Can something like that not be turned into a quote button to reveal quote info. Instead of quotes being open and cluttering up topics full of benchmark graphs one after the other.

We don't have to change the gangster theme if people like it. I personally don't like it and have avatars and sigs switched off anyway. However if people like it, it will stay. :)

Is it something a Poll could be made on? ;)

There should be a tiered subscription system where you pay a certain amount of money to unlock each level giving you access to better features. E.g. You get 50 posts per month by default but you can pay a £10/mo. subscription to become a "Member" and get 100 posts per month with additional tiers beyond this level.

Management will love it.

Pls tell me your trolling.

Adding a rep system would be the worst idea in the history of the forum. The very worst. It's very rare we get spam to increase post count, but imagine the spam for rep points...

I like the gangster theme. Or at least the black/white avatars. It's neat and tidy anyway.

It would be nice to have an auto image resize plugin. Would save me having to open up Photoshop all the time. :)

Thoughts:

  • A like/thanks system would be nice.
  • Better media management/handling (image gallery for each member for example?)
  • Encourage more social interaction between members (A thanks system for example helps with this)
  • Recognise that each sub forum can have different needs and adjust/taylor to such needs.
  • Custom Avatars (can be moderated with most forum software nowadays)
  • Removal of signature restrictions. It is the 21st century. Most forum software allow you to block all/selective avatars.

The world is your oyster though when looking where forum/community software now is compared to this version of VB.

Infact, the whole premise of what the forum is for should be rethought.

Some will be happy "as is", some will want a "Facebook" type experience.

Final suggestion...

Ban GD natives wondering into other parts of the forum :p

Since mods are taking notes I'll chime in with some thoughts too! :D

  • Mobile friendly
  • 'Tagging' other users so they get a notification of some sort
  • Auto-resizing images
  • Ability to self delete a post (possible at mod discretion/user trust worthiness?)
  • Active quoting - highlight some text in a post and either a box pops up or clicking the quote button then creates a new post with the highlighted part as the quote
  • Custom avatars! I really wanna use my Lucha Underground one :p

Think that's all for now.

For what it's worth I really like Discourse Forums - it does take a bit of getting used to but it's very nice to use imo!

Will you be trail running new ideas on a separate link for users to try and comment on like

https://forumstest.overclockers.co.uk/

For example? At least if we can see ideas being tried we can say if its better than current system or not. Kinda like beta testing the eventual new forums however it turns out.

It is dangerous to do that as you will always get "I like"... "I do not like"... "WAA WAA WAA"... regardless of what you do and that stifles overall development of your platform.

Personally, I think the best route is they nail down what they want, do it, test behind closed doors, release as "optional" for a while and tweek. Even then, not to add/remove features but more so to nail down specific bugs on whichever platform they choose.

Can't you relate the theme to overclocking somehow? Or an 8 pack theme? Start on 1 pack and work your way up!

Unless ocuk gathers a group of well rounded testers from the forum that they respect as well as the community respects?

Just a quick thought that run through my head...

Don't change from vBulletin - It's simple, and effective. All other forum software I've used it bundled with extra rubbish and we don't need a huge change like that here... In my opinion...

vBulletin is just the same. All software is the same. It depends on what you do with it.
