Very sad that politics of division and fear won out, and that such a small majority is deemed acceptable to make such a decision.

Leave voters seem to have, in the majority at least, fallen for the story that the fear was all from the Remain camp

Im more shocked at the people in Wales who voted Leave? We benefit greatly from EU membership???

It is because hardly anyone knows how any of it works and just voted leave because of some strange nationalistic/freedom/independence day type jazz. People watch too many films.

But another highly educated young person leaving is just another straw on the camels back.

The views of people like SciNeT are just pushing more and more educated young people away, which is not good for the the British economy. We are after all the most highly mobile part of the population, being able to move countries with much greater ease than almost any other subsection of society.

Do we want the UK to be an economy of steel workers and heavy industry? Or do we want the UK to have a highly skilled and educated workforce?

We want both and we'll get both, if a few uni lefties want out because we're out of the EU then we'll just import the talent from abroad, like we've always done.

Well, much as I desperately wanted to remain, I will get behind Britain's decision.
I have confidence that we will recover and be as great as we always were.

So, might as well say "Happy independance day" and keep my chin up and have faith that Britain will prevail.

I agree with this sentiment, apart from the bit about Independence Day. I don't buy that we ever weren't a sovereign nation, so it seems to me little more than a meaningless leave campaign soundbite.

Very worried for what the future holds. Not a lot to do but knuckle down and get on with it though :)

The market was always going to take a dive but it will creep back up.

A leave vote was never going to send it rocketing upwards now was it?

Its day 0 at the mo so give it time, keep the faith yo!

So there are officially 17,410,742 absolute ***** in the UK, what are the other 16,141,241?

Some of the comments in this thread are beyond stupid.

The other 16,141,241 have been rushed to A&E to treat Grade A booty blasting going by some of the comments.

The two sides to the conversation in this thread say it all really.

Remain: "reasoned arguments..."

Leave: "Yeah, well just **** off!"

Remember how everyone said that we're the world's fifth largest economy and so we can survive on our own?

Well, the pound has fallen so far that we're no longer the world's fifth largest economy.

A lot of areas are having major frixtion with the large amount of eastern Europeans

May well be, but I have a lot of friction with the half the morons in my street who do not work, dont intend to work and never will work. Id rather a million working foreigners in compared the lazy half wit baboons I have near me

How will this effect my holiday going abroad with my eu passport next month?

You don't have an EU passport. You have a British Passport and always have. There will be no effect.

Interesting comment just came up. Airbus. Will new parts start being manufactured in other countries now?

Rocketing upwards no, but it would have been up because the markets are adverse to risk. Look at the world markets in the last few days when it seems remain was the most likely outcome, all have been up.

I woke up at 3am to go to the loo and my parents were watching the live news as Poll results were coming in. At the time all the results coming in were remain far outnumbering leave. I wake up today and people are dooming and glooming, even on the GPU threads. I assume leave won?

You can doom and gloom after things get bad in several months. Until then it's like a new GPU release... we know jack all about what will happen.

That's my 2 cents, I'm outta here.

Bloody hell, it's only been a few hours and you already ditch the pound. :P

Indeed; don't get me wrong, both campaigns indulged heavily in scaremongering, but the Leave campaign was better at demonising the EU and immigrants.

You wont import science talent from abroad and you will see a lot of projects moving.

A significant portion of our researchers are from the EU. As funding for projects are dropped, funding for foreign students are dropped and collaborations based in the UK move to more convenient countries, the UK will lose its science crown.

And rightly so after the neglect science has received in recent years!
