Currently I'm trying to figure out why I'm lagging in fps games and I've been using my ping tests on Ookla as a data point. But after changing my internet and upgrading my computer I'm still getting the issue in games and so I'm questioning whether my ping test are being manipulated, anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

A ping test like that is only going to tell you something about the connection between you and the test server selected.

Not completely useless, but it isn't going to tell you much about the connection between you and the gaming server(s).

most of the time that is enough, the real issues are *usually* from your PC to the exchange or just after,

once you are past the first bit its not often you are going to have issues,

Some do, especially to the favourite test sites. Others actually negate the usefulness of ping by prioritising it low on their routers, so any time a customer complains, they are told that it's not a useful measure.

The only thing I haven't upgraded is the OS, which I tried to but the upgrade to Windows 10 literally left my computer unable to play any games.

Sometimes it's just best to do a clean install. While most PCs I upgraded from 7 to 10 was fine, there was a few which had to have a fresh 10 install to get back the best performance.

What is it like when you ping a site like bbc?

Just pinged the bbc and I get 13ms min and 15 ms max.

What ISP is it and which games exactly? Those pings to the BBC seems fine.

All FPS games tbh as the other games I play you don't notice pings, I'm with BT and have 55 down and 10 up, I was getting this issue when I was with Orange thou and was the reason why I changed.

Hmm, I'm on BT myself and not noticed any lagging issues.

My brother did and he mostly played FPS games, but the "lag" he was complaining about was more due to his monitor's refresh rate (60 was too low for him).

Could maybe do a clean Windows 10 install and see how it goes from there?
