Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

In addition to that the unimpressive performance in the recent leaks.

I don't care whether a GPU is £200 or £600 - i care that i feel i'm getting something good for the money.

If the 480 turns out like suspected (And currency issues is pushing it higher), it leaves Nvidia as my option... Only option i'd consider with them is 1080.

You did get something good but for a LOT of money!

Ti = £360
premium 480 = close to £300

why not just pay a little extra to get a much better card? They must be even cheaper used now too.

Yeah it's gotta really be £200 max to make sense. I'm the kind of guy that would look for the extra £60 and just get it done. Stretching £300 is asking too much haha.

I only see the jump to the 980Ti as making sense if you have already paid the G-sync tax. That seems to add on at least another £60 in costs, more if you go higher es.

Pretty sure there is more to the speed of a card than just teraflops.... Isn't the Nano a 8+ teraflop card and the 980ti a lot less, yet the 980Ti is a faster card...

i think what he means is; do you think there would be a performance regression? considering GCN4 is supposed to be improved in terms of performance as well as efficiency.

Also fiji had quite a few problems with using its performance that GCN4/Polaris is helping to fix.

Sync hasn't exactly taken the world by storm, not sure how many people even care these days.

Maybe becasue of the cost of G-sync and Nvidia's lack of support for Adaptive sync monitors? Althouh AMD are also extending the capability to HDMI and it is more than likely going to end up as a feature in the console refreshes. So it could take off when the come out if console people find out about it.

again we don't know :D we do know Sapphire confirmed 1500mhz was possible....

will that be possible on ref again don't know but 1400 wouldn't be a stretch at all for 480 to hit...1500 I think possibly could be a stretch to hit on ref.......these are the big unknowns.....

also don't know what voltage will need to hit these clocks; 1500 could be extremely easy to hit.....or might need a little extra voltage to hit :D

but I do know 5.8 TFLOP card can't be slower than 5.1 TFLOP card; or least shouldn't be with proper drivers :D
Any overclocking isn't guaranteed though is it? A 980Ti should overclock really well but there is a chance it's a duffer. The only guarantee are the stock clocks.

AMD RX 480 Hits US Stores, Supply 20x Larger Than GTX 1080 At Launch

AMD’s RX 480 is now beginning to hit US stores. In quantities that are allegedly more than 20 times larger than GTX 1080 shipments at launch. We’ve reported a couple of days ago that the supply for AMD’s RX 480 graphics card is “strong” according to several of our industry sources. And that the RX 480 will be in-stock in substantial numbers at launch.
